Rice men (and some women) Track & Field at New Mexico
Today and tomorrow (February 7-8), the Rice men's Track & Field team, along with some jumpers and pole vaulters from the women's team will compete in Albuquerque.
I have been unable to load the heat sheets, so I know very little, as of now.
Here is the RESULTS LINK.
We'll see ....

Freshman decathlete Scott Filip finished 19th in the open high jump at 1.98 meters (6' 6"). That is an excellent effort for a multi-event athlete.

I'm thinking that Chris Pillow will compete in the men's pole vault (he is #28 in the NCAA right now), and that McKenzie Johnson will be in the women's pole vault (she is #33). Pillow is #1 in C-USA, while Johnson is #3.
The men's pole vault is tonight; the women vault tomorrow.

Chris Pillow finished 6th in the pole vault with 5.20 meters (17‘ 0.75"). He has a better this year.
Justin Gross, who came in ranked #30 in the NCAA in the long jump, finished 5th with 7.25 meters (23‘ 9.5"). Not an improvement.
Ben Pressley and Scott Filip, a couple of decathletes, were 9th and 10th, respectively, in the long jump (23‘ 3.25" and 23' 2.75").
Belle MacFarlane moved to #23 in the NCAA with a 3rd place finish in the high jump. Her mark was 1.78 meters (5‘ 10").

Looks like Pillow came in 6th.
EDIT: had to change number. Apparently I couldn't read. And WRC did beat me to posting.

A few years ago I went with the team to a meet in ALB. During the early part of the meet on Saturday, a thunderstorm came through and they had to stop the meet....however, after about ten minutes, they announced that the pole vault would continue due to the travel plans of various vaulters. Needless to say, pole vaulting during a lightning storm didn't look really safe to me. ALB is not a great place for great marks due to the wind and weather.

To be fair, the poles are fiberglass . . .

But possibly wet.

Claire Uke had yet another outstanding effort in the shot put, finishing 2nd with a mark of 16.57 meters (54‘ 4.5"). That moves her to #11 on the NCAA list this indoor season!!!
In the women's pole vault, it was a disappointing 9th place finish for sophomore McKenzie Johnson, who only cleared 3.82 meters (12‘ 6.25").
Both decathletes (Ben Pressley and Scott Filip were able to get in some work, finishing 4th and 6th, respectively, in the "B" 60 meter finals (8.47 and 8.66).

FIFY.
To be even more fair, the meet was indoor at the Albuquerque Convention Center. (And the weather outside was nice too.)
