RE: Official basketball meltdown thread
I really thought losing to North Texas was as bad as it would get this season. Now this UAB team has lost consecutive games to East Carolina and FIU.
Can we even beat Rice on the road? I don't know anymore. North Texas lost at Rice tonight.
It appears UAB will finish in the lower half of the conference, just like last season.

RE: Official basketball meltdown thread
I'm of the school of thought that it doesn't matter what the coach does, if you can't put the ball in the basket you can't win. We missed at least 5 lay ups today, so you can't even argue that he isn't putting them in positions to shoot good shots. I don't know what argument you can make for defense, I just know that everyone shoots their best game against us. Obviously Haase is a great recruiter, we have an outstanding class coming in next year.
One thing I never can wrap my head around is how entitled UAB fans are. Who are we to demand an NCAA bid in a new head coaches 2nd year? It just doesn't happen that way.We have some extremely bright spots this year. We have some outstanding freshmen performers in Denzel Watts and Tosin Mehinti. You can even stretch it a little bit and add Tyler Madison into that. The future is bright, we just need to have some patience!

Good reality check. Haase is building for the future.

How entitled are UAB fans? Well, we've been spoiled. Should the Blazers miss the postseason this year, it will be only the second time in school history there has been a 3-season drought. I'm sure many fans remember the only 3-year drought well. I like to refer to it as the Middle Ages of Blazer basketball.

But I think we were at least expecting an NIT appearance, and I would say that's becoming increasingly unlikely at this point as well.

Don't let any of that sky hurt you.
At least I am a realist and am not constantly stirring up the shitter. This team has lost to 3 of the worst teams in the conference in the past 2 weeks. If it weren't for the pitiful watered down conference we are in, this may be our first basketball team to finish in last place.

Second, the entitlement comes from years of success and expectations, perhaps too high in the new college basketball reality. There have been two four year players in our history that has not played in an NCAA tournament. Cedric Dixon and Howard Crawford. Thanks to Davis's poor recruiting and his one 2011 NCAA appearance, we are not in danger of that happening this year.
Thank you. It's not too much to expect UAB to beat NT, ECU, and FIU in basketball. This is UAB BASKETBALL for God's sake! It's like watching our tradition get flushed down a toilet.
Our league keeps getting worse and UAB keeps matching the decline. At least there aren't any basketball start ups to blow us out in their second or third year playing.

Why does every team seem to shoot 50% behind the arc against us every game? Bring that down to a normal average and we win most of our games.

Our SOS was better last year, which helped our RPI.
We won a single game in the top 100 last year, and that was against UTEP. We won one other game against the top 150, which was Tulsa. That made us 2-15 against the top 100.
This year we have 2 top 100 wins, one of which is top 50. We also have another win in the top 150, which gives us more than we had last year. We still have shots at home against very good teams, plus the conference tournament.
I understand the season didn't go the way you wanted, but there is no reason to go making stuff up to try and make the coach look bad. We are going to be fine, we're just a year away.

I agree. A lot of the guys that we have been fans of on this team likely wouldn't even see playing time next year.

It ain't luck. UAB is very poor defensively on the perimeter. CJ alluded to it when he talked about teams "blowing by us". We don't rotate when the ball moves and we end up running at shooters off balance. So they either get great looks at the basket or take it straight into the paint. Reverse the ball a few times and you are going to get open shots from the outside against UAB.

This is it. We just can't finish. It's hard to explain why. We shoot so poorly, even from close, and our opponents seem to be able to nail threes repeatedly.
Stay the course and stay steady with Haase. It's way too early in his tenure to get all negative.

Yep. I mean CJ missed a wide open dunk last night.(I like CJ as a player, this just stands out to me) Lay the ball up, we have two more points, and maybe a chance to win. What more could Haase possibly do as a coach than have a guy in position to have a wide open dunk?
