Sorry, you can't compare the two.

Memphis will never be able to play an NCAA tourney game on it's home floor.

You can't compare an NBA playoff atmosphere to a random mid-week college game.

I compared the Memphis/UT game in '08 to the Grizz playoff run. Yeah that's a pretty fair comparison considering that was probably the most anticipated game the Tigers ever have played in the Forum.

So yeah, that's comparable.

If you throw the script away, you throw away the revenue.

Are you willing to pay higher donation/ticket prices to fill the gap?

When I say throw the script away, I mean if we go on a 10-0 run punctuated by an alley-oop that blows the roof off of the place putting us up by 2 against Louisville with 2 minutes to go, you don't kill that crowd fervor by doing that ridiculous sunglasses spot. You ad lib, play it by ear, fly by the seat of your pants, whatever. Save the spot for a more appropriate time and get the fight song going followed by a T-I-G-E-R-S chant.

How much do those spots generate I wonder and is it worth it to contribute to a dead crowd? Have we sold out with these horrible advertising gimmicks at the expense of having a pure college basketball atmosphere? I think so.

One of the loudest games I remember going to was the NIT game against New Mexico in the very early 2000's to see who would be going to New York. I believe most tickets were sold to the general public, fans who really, really wanted to be there. There was one heavy set fan who over and over would get his section, and then eventually the entire crowd, to do the T-I-G-E-R-S chant. It was great. We need someone to do that. During the sunglasses spot, or the volleyball game, or whenever appropriate, someone step up and get the crowd doing that chant.

Don't know about "awful", but it doesn't appeal to me in the least. The season is too long, they play too many games, few (if any) local players, not enough defense, lacks the color, spirit and passion of the college game (especially during March Madness)......Frankly, I don't like pro sports in general - never even watch the Super Bowl. I do attend a few Redbirds games every summer for relaxation and nostalgia.

Hey Grey, seriously, have you been to a Grizzlies game lately?

What I don't understand is that some people blame us being in a pro stadium for the cause of the boring atmosphere. Hello, have you seen the grizzly atmosphere during the playoffs? College athletics should be able to create that atmosphere for any conference game. Fact is, it wasn't there for Cincinnati or UCONN

First thing that I heard from a guy behind me after the tip of the UT Memphis game was "down in front!"

It was dead on TV for Cincy and UConn and I got blasted for saying so.

The atmosphere was dead for Cincy and UConn because we lost.

We haven't beaten a ranked team at home in at least 5 years. I think that has something to do with it.

If the team plays hard and beats good teams, the place will get lively. End of story.

Seeing a lot of agreement here...that in addition to some other issues...

The sole crushing atmosphere crapping poor timing of the prepaid arena advertisements need to be addressed.

The money matters.

But so does avoiding showing the Conway Hot Shot of the Game at the under 12 minute media timeout- especially if things are not going well.

Yes- bigger name opponents and close games will gin up excitement regardless, but even with that, as mentioned above, the ridiculous sunglass ad instead of cheerleaders running onto the court while the band plays the fight song cripples that to a degree. Less pom ass shaking and more cheering would be great too.

But then again, I have only been to 1 Grizz game ever. There's a salesman who calls on us at work and I am running out of excuses to decline using his suite tix to a Grizz game. The NBA is awful. Rather stay home and watch static on TV.

Grizz playoff games trump any Tiger game in recent history. Including the UT game #1 vs. #2. I was 3rd row in the student section at that game among many others during the Cal era and grew up as a kid in the Pyramid.

I'm a season ticket holder to both the Grizz and Tigers. I'll be at the Tigers game Saturday but honestly it's only about my 4th game to go to at home this year because the games have absolutely zero energy. I sat down low for the Cincy game and that crowd was an absolute joke. The Grizz games are great and appeal to a wider variety of fans.

Tigers games have been terrible to attend over the past few years. People telling you to sit down when a big play happens, it's just a complete joke and not a "college" atmosphere. Anyway, sorry for the rant but the Grizz games are so much more raucous (especially playoffs) than any tiger game ever will be. Just stating facts. You can hear a pin drop in the Forum at a Tigers game. When NBA commentators say the Forum is the loudest arena they've been to year in year out during the playoffs that means something. At the Tigers games, we have 18,119 people sitting there socializing while our students don't even know how to spell Tigers.

maybe so. Personally, I have fun at the Tiger games and have 0 interest in watching/ attending/ following anything NBA related. Wouldnt make me any difference either way if the Grizz packed up and moved back to Canada. NBA games are boring. The awful rap music is loud. I found it hilarious that the NBA came in 5th in the most recent Harris poll of most popular sports behind: NFL, MLB, NCAA FB, and NASCAR.

You should have been here when Moe Iba was coach. You had your choice of any seat in the house.

I admit I like and pretty much follow all of them except NASCAR. I'm eagerly looking forward to the start of the new MLB season. Surprising not to see college basketball in the top five. We all love it around here. College hoops absolutely needs some rules tweeked to keep it from falling further back in the popularity pack. Hopefully some of those issues will be addressed this Summer.

Yep.

Back in my day, at some football games, I sometimes got to go the the Athletic Department's or the Toyota dealer's suite. Hardly any of those uppity SOB's up there paid any attention to the game whatsoever.

We should start an upper deck chant to the lower bowl, "Hey, lower bowl, WE CAN'T HEARRRRRR YOU!!!!!" Call 'em out.

That's a below-the-belt shot at our players. I'm calling you out on it. Not something to post on this board.

Been to 95% of Tiger home games since 2007. Been to Western Conference semis and Finals last year. Loudest FedexForum has ever been was the 07-08 Georgetown game.
