The 49ers will host the the Mountaineers on Sept. 8, 2018 at Richardson Stadium; the second game will be Sept. 7, 2019 at Kidd Brewer Stadium in Boone.

Glad to hear this news. Hopefully by 2018 well be settled into FBS. Hope the stadium is expanded by then as well. Should be a fun game with the schools being relatively close and lots of alumni in the area.

Good to hear. There's no reason that game shouldn't be played. Really probably should end up being an annual game.

At least Charlotte will be up and running full force by then.
Some wanted it earlier, but this is probably good timing for them.
Should be large attendances.

I'm glad that this series is happening. It should be good for both sides. The banter between the fans will be fun as the game gets closer.

This is great! I love regional games. I also want Georgia St and if they Move up Liberty on our schedule regularly. I would love to play the regional big boys regularly but I'm not holding my breath and I don't count them because they will all be away games.

Ga State is on our schedule next year I believe and the year after that. I see no reason to have them on the schedule every year. If we're going to schedule one of the Ga. schools, it should be GaSo. They at least have some fans that will travel to the games and that are passionate about their school.

I don't care if we ever play Liberty. Why the hell do you want to play them? They're not going to excite the fanbase. I'd rather play an in-state FCS team than Liberty.

I agree. If most teams have 4 OOC games, I'm OK with an annual FBS rivalry with geographically relevant App State being one of them, then I'd like to see two lower tier P5 teams (Think Wake Forest or Vanderbuilt, and occasionally a power school) and then a rotational G5 school. I see no reason to clog our OOC with several annual games against the same lower level G5 teams every year.

Overall, I like the 2014 schedule, but I would have preferred at least one lower level FBS school or FBS transitional.

According to College Football Talk from NBC Sports, Charlotte and Appalachian State will play a H+H series in football in 2018 and 2019. That's a good in-state game that has lots of potential for a good rivalry game between C-USA and the Sun Belt. Good catch, 49ers!
