Bingo. I couldn't believe he had UCF ranked ahead of the Owls 03-lmfao

I like UCF and think they have great potential, but Temple is a top 30 basketball program, which shows just how strong this league is going to be.

Yes, but "job" is different than program. Temple is a good program, but I think UCF is as "on the rise" as any school in the country. I think we the right coach UCF could be nasty in basketball.

You think UCLA is a good job? They had to get a journeyman coach who made what was at best a lateral move from Iowa to New Mexico just to stay ahead of the posse. Did Arizona get their top choice when they hired Miller? NC State had to hire a retread in Gottfried. Here's a newsflash for you, coaches are staying where they think they have it good. Mark Few, Shaka Smart and Greg Marshall are prime examples.

You leave Memphis if Kentucky, North Carolina, Kansas and UCLA call. Maybe Ohio State. Not many other places.

I agree that UCF could be formidable under the right coach. If they could ever get rid of "dime-a-dozen" Donnie and snatch up a Bruce Pearl or Shaka Smart, their basketball program could rival football.

This. I think 2-4 are pretty even. UL has clearly separated themselves on this list.

I might throw Houston in there for untapped potential.

RE: Rank the 5 best basketball jobs in the American Conference.
UConn maybe perceived as a better job nationally because of 3 national championships, but they only have those because they were lucky enough to hire a hall of fame coach who decided to stay at a program instead of move to larger programs.

You could argue just how good programs like Syracuse or Duke would be if they hadn't hit the jackpot on coaches.

I think that if you just look at salary paid to coaches, facilities, fanbase, and the talent within the city there is not many jobs more attractive than the Memphis job.

This is why:

Temple has made 6 straight NCAA Tournaments and just ended our streak of 5 years in a row beating a top 10 team out of conference. All of that with a coach who hates recruiting, cannot recruit to save his life, and has almost an entire coaching staff who similarly cannot recruit worth a damn.

With a brand new practice facility used by all visiting NBA teams, a top notch arena that recently underwent $2M in renovations to upgrade the video board and add video ribbons, if we had $2M a year for a head coach, and some assistants who knew what the term AAU meant, we would be a top 15 team every year.

You guys haven't signed a 4 or 5 star recruit in 14 years.

UCF could creep up on Cincy and UConn and I think is still ahead of SMU and has probably moved ahead of Temple. Their facilities are really nice, and Florida is a fun place to live.

I think SMU, in the AAC, with the recruiting base in Dallas and the boosters who are obviously willing to "pony" up money to draw Larry Brown out of retirement, is showing better potential than UCF. Not to say that UCF can't be a good job, but SMU has more money and a better recruiting base.

UCF's practice facility opened in 2008
Temple's practice facility opened in 2012

Take a look at how much they differ. Temple's practice facility utilizes a state-of-the-art weight free system, that uses air rather than physical weights. It is something very few schools have.

Their arena is 10 years newer than ours, but does not have the $2M video boards and ribbons that ours has. I think you'd find that our arena is as nice, if not nicer, despite being 10 years older.
