He had it and was on his way to a win as after that first inning letdown the Cajuns could do absolutely nothing against him and all the momentum was in USM's favor. Taking him out was the game changer.

Having said all that, thank you.04-cheers

I hate what you could call a "hard pitch count"--one that a coach picks and follows no matter what. Going into a game with a general idea of how many pitches you want a guy to throw that is negotiable based on circumstances and what his stamina is like makes more sense to me.

That said, I can see it early in the season or when a pitcher has a history of arm problems. This was Fisk's first game of the season and he does have a history of arm injuries (last year). I'm not going to say that I agree with the move but I will say that I believe most coaches would have pulled him after 98 pitches on a somewhat chilly night.

Unfortunately, it just exposed a weakness again we have had for several years now. Weak hitting and no bullpen. Bullpen gave up four runs in the last 4 innings, and hitters stunk it up again.

And here we go again. Eagles get four in first and nothing since.

Giannini throws six shutout but now it's only 4-3 with runners on in the second

Think this may be a theme throughout the season: Fisk and Giannini great but can't get us deep enough to avoid having to lean on middle relief. I don't understand Berry's continued infatuation with McMahon while we waste Wineski in the ninth in a four run game last night.

Berry ball. Lynch--who should never be bunting--gets a guy thrown out at second. His next time up, we bunt again! Against a guy who throws in the high 90s at that!!! Easy force out at third

Burdeaux with the bailout single to tie it. Eagles can't score another with bases loaded and one out. 4-4...to the 12th.

you know how much I hate bunting with no outs and men on first/second....he's been consistent with this....on principal alone, it's just NOT the way to do it

....it's not a mystery why we can't hit...I'm done with him.....

Dayum, what a game.

I had bidness to attend to and left in the 7th with the Cajuns down 4-0. Figured when I returned it'd be over....it wasn't......tied up in the 10th.04-jawdrop

Cajuns get a single run, USM matches but leaves runners in scoring position. Cajuns finally push across 3 to win the thing.

I can see what you guys are saying about your bull pen....seems they have a hard time closing.

LSU 1st - Jones, J grounded out to 2b (1-1). Dozar walked (3-0). Katz hit by pitch (3-2); Dozar advanced to second. Nola walked (3-1); Katz advanced to second; Dozar advanced to third. Moore walked, RBI (3-1); Nola advanced to second; Katz advanced to third; Dozar scored. Livingston to p for Nunez.

I do believe that Nunez hit two Cajun batters in the first inning of game 3.

Yeah, he's hit seven in eight innings of work this season. 18 for his career in 32 innings.

More fun with numbers:

Between walks and HBPs, USM pitching handed out 22 free passes in yesterday's double header.

For the season, our staff has walked 31 batters and beaned a pretty remarkable 16 in 65 innings of work. So, basically our pitchers are allowing a free pass every four outs.

Our hitters have only had one sacrifice fly and somehow, only successfully laid down one SAC bunt ALL SEASON!

We're slugging at a .317 percentage, can't bunt, and only have two stolen bases in five attempts.

Yikes, gotta be disheartening. Have you got any numbers on pick-offs? I recall one of our runners getting picked off at 3rd and another on a stolen base attempt at 2nd, but outside of those two, it looked like we stole bases at will.

Welcome to the club. Runners are 14/16 against Durst.

Didn't even realize how bad our defense has been this season until someone pointed it out on another board. Our third basemen have made five errors and just seven assists.

Cajuns seem to have a hell of a team. Not trying to take anything away from you guys....but this is a USM team with a lot of talent that appears to be getting more lost by the season.

This team sucks. Scott Berry is completely clueless. It's just really bad baseball.

Remember seeing some State fans saying that they thought Berry was in way over his head when he was hired. I felt like we rubber stamped the hire but he shut me up in 2011. I guess the biggest question I have when looking at what he's done is what in the world happened when we were so good that year?

This just sucks. Even in our "bad" years, our teams used to at least look really good until April or so before collapsing.

Alcorn State tonight. As bad as we are playing, no way we lose that one. Alabama tomorrow night. Troy this weekend. Looks like a 2-2 week.

We get a W over Alcorn 8-4, but it was a very sloppy game in the field for our guys. Three errors and several misplayed throws that weren't charged as errors. Alcorn was 4 for 4 in stolen bases which brings our opponents total for the year to 20 out of 24.
