A North South split will piss off a lot of coaches regarding recruiting. Not really sure how N/S "works better" as the travel is farther and you end up with multiple time zones in each division. Simplest solution is to put Navy in the West.

Hopefully they do this and add in permanent cross-divisional rivals. ECU-Navy, Cincy-Memphis, UCF-Tulsa, etc.

North South makes the most sense. Northern schools will play in both Texas and Florida in some years and will always play in either Texas or Florida.

Travel between the "north division" is not that bad. Here are the distances between Greenville and the rest of the division.

Cincinnati: 598 Miles
Annapolis: 308 Miles
Storrs: 639 Miles
Philadelphia: 415 Miles
Memphis: 832 Miles

Navy in a "western" division makes no sense. Memphis is your only significant travel and that would only be every other year.

By comparison here is your travel to the soutehrn schools:

Houston: 1272 Miles
Dallas: 1266 Miles
Tulsa: 1233 Miles
New Orleans: 949 Miles
Orlando: 644 Miles
Tampa: 699 Miles

I looked up the travel as well on a north-south split. Memphis will have a game or two each year within driving distance against Tulsa, Tulane, Houston, or SMU. Plus they get an annual game with Cincinnati. The Bearcats closest opponents would be Navy and Memphis; however, they still have a Texas or Florida trip every season to recruit.

ECU, Navy, Temple, and UConn make a tight geographic block that mirrors the ACC footprint. Tulsa, Tulane, SMU, and Houston form another tight geographic block as well. I would rather place UC and Memphis in the north than place them with the western schools.

North - Cincinnati, East Carolina, Memphis, Navy, Temple, UConn
South - Houston, SMU, Tulane, Tulsa, UCF, USF

Check a map...Tulsa is further north than MEMPHIS. MEMPHIS should be in the South (N-S alignment) or the West (E-W alignment).

I forgot Navy is FB only, that is a blessing, So....how will the BB schedule be arranged? A 20 game H&H is tough.

I suggest playing 5 crossover games H&H each year (10 games) and the remaining 6 opponents are split H&A on a 2 year basis. That would be a 16 game AAC schedule.

Memphis vs. Tulsa Distances

Cincy: 752 Miles (Tulsa) 481 Miles (Memphis)
Temple: 1279 Miles (Tulsa) 1016 (Memphis)
Annapolis: 1235 Miles (Tulsa) 915 (Memphis)
Storrs: 1498 Miles (Tulsa) 1242 Miles (Memphis)
Greenville: 1234 (Tulsa) 833 Miles (Memphis)

Physically farther north? A whole 1.014 degrees but you are closer to every school.

RE: Three Questions Regarding AAC Football Schedules
Of the 3 models, East-West works best for recruiting purposes of the non-Texas, non-Florida schools.

East
UConn
Temple
East Car
Navy
UCF
USF

West
SMU
Houston
Memphis
Cincy
Tulane
Tulsa

Under this set up, UConn, Temple, ECU & Navy get 1 trip to Florida every year, and 1 trip to Texas every other year.

Likewise, Cincy, Memphis, Tulane and Tulsa get 1 trip to Texas every year, and 1 trip to Florida every other year.

If you put Houston, SMU, UCF, USF, Tulane and Tulsa in a "South" division, then

Tulane and Tulsa would get trips to Texas AND Florida every year, and the six "North" schools would get a trip to Texas OR Florida every year.

So putting SMU & Houston in a different division than UCF & USF spreads the trips to Texas and Florida more evenly among the rest.

Well explained. Makes sense to me. Only question would be if Navy and UC switch.
