Problem solved.

navy is in maryland in the northeast..

so we'd make the only school with a financial and recruiting disadvantage carry the most financial burden and put them on an island (when uconn, temple & ecu are all under a 5 hour drive from them)

Navy has stated many times that they rather have a more national schedule in football than just playing regional opponents. Playing smaller private schools such as Tulsa,Tulane and SMU is more attractive to them.

whoever told you this is a liar
all three schools you just named have tiny fanbases and no offense to any of there fans currently have no national relavance..

you honestly need to re-read what you wrote and see how that makes no sense. so they want to dramatically increase there travel expenses, have no regional rivalries to go play tulsa and tulane that struggle to get 20k attendance.

If I am not mistaken the Navy AD has stated they don't mind going west as they already travel all over the country

Tulane 19 and SMU 16

UConn 7
ECU 4

UH 1

the have a rivalry with smu
the battle for the "Gansz Trophy"
that doesnt mean they want to dramatically increase there travel expense.
if you look at navys schedule
the voluntarily schedule almost all there games with east teams, probably on 1 or 2 games a year arent in driving distance..

I would love to see the quote/interview where this came from, i have a feeling you are completely taking this out of context.
i have a feeling he was saying he didnt mind going west for a game (aka like playing in san jose like they did this year) in reference to 1 game or that they'll travel west in respect to scheduling some games, or maybe even going west for a bowl game.

i highly doubt he ment playing exclusively west teams (and on certain years having no games in driving distance or playing in a western division when most of the schools close to his are in the east)

Actually, this comment was made at one of the Conference forums in which Navy took part. This was however, at a time when Boise State and San Diego State where still on board. I'm sure Navy was looking forward to playing games on the west cost. I doubt the same zeal for the western division will be upheld when traveling to land locked states. JMHO 04-cheers

Right. Navy wouldn't want to go to land locked states like Texas and Louisianna. Navy may not want to be in the west division, but I doubt that land locked states is the primary reason.

I did't mean it in quite that way however, thanks for the laugh. 03-cloud9

I meant, that trading Tulsa for San Diego wouldn't work. California is the largest contributor of Navy personnel of all the 50 states. So yes playing in San Diego was a huge get for Navy. Boise State not so much and certainly not Tulsa. Now you have to understand, there was also the possibility of Fresno State being added as well. That would have made Navy's move to a western division a no brainer. 04-cheers

This IMHO makes the most sense by far. You have 2 schools in TX for the west recruiting and 2 in FL for East recruiting. Navy would probably prefer to play the 3 private schools every year.

Obvious Cross Division Rivals
WEST--------EAST
Navy---------ECU
Memphis-----Cincy
Tulsa---------UCF (yup, this was a CUSA rivalry)

Potential Cross Division Rivals
Temple------Houston (2 largest markets?)
UConn-------SMU
USF----------Tulane (were in CUSA together?)

Not sure how you'd set up the other x-division rivals but those pairings are obvious to me.

And yet, somehow, they've played SMU and Tulane 35 times, and the rest of the teams 26 times. New Orleans had a significant naval facility for over 100 years that was, unfortunately, closed in 2011. Memphis, Tulane and USF have ROTC units
You have no idea what you're talking about.

The Naval Submarine Base in Groton/New London, Connecticut (est. 1899) is the US Navy's primary submarine base. Also nicknamed the submarine capital of the world.

You sure Navy doesn't belong in the East with UCONN?

I don't know where Navy belongs or wants to be. But the idea that they have no interest in the western schools is ridiculous.

did i ever say they didnt want to play them at all? i even pointed out that navy and smu have a small rivalry going for the ganz trophy.
im sure navy wouldnt mind playing smu and tulane but im saying is that its absurd to believe that navy would voluntarily want to join the west division and dramatically increase there financial burden for the sole purposes of playing those teams.

You may be right.

The only Western attraction would be to play in a division with like minded schools academically (Tulane, SMU, Tulsa).

What does land locked states have to do with anything? The Navy has people (vets, enlisted, officers and academy) from all over the country.

I feel like Navy is the type of program that will play whoever wherever and not really complain either way.
