Yes, to keep up with the teams in the ACC he needed more resources because teams were starting to pass them by.
UAB is getting plans in place for basic athletic facilities for football that have haunted us on the recruiting trail and during practice. Improvements to or a replacement for Legion Field is also in the works... better than nothing since the OCS is a long way off.

As noted, in the 20 years before Solich arrive at Ohio Grobe and 3 other coaches combined for 61 wins and Grobe had 33 of those in just 6 seasons. That leaves just 28 wins in 14 seasons for the other three coaches during that timeframe. Gives you an idea of how bad that program was.

He then goes to Wake Forrest, a program with the 3rd worst career winning percentage of all time in FBS, and leaves tied for the most wins by a WF coach and gets about as many wins in 13 seasons as the previous 3 coaches had in 20 seasons. And those 3 previous coaches include AL Groh and Jim Caldwell.

Grobe is extremely well liked by players and fans and is a high character guy. Can't stress enough how big of a steal this would be for UAB. Good luck.

A nice guy that stays many years at schools with low expectations. FHCWB????

UAB has been there, done that already...

Bingo.

The difference is, Grobe won at those places.

Point being, Grobe knows what he's stepping into if he takes the job.

if by winning you mean 33-33-1 at Ohio and 77-82 at Wake the answer is yes he won at those places. He had five winning seasons at Wake Forest out of 13. And this is a school that can afford to schedule a lot easy out of conference wins.

Grobe would be a huge upgrade to the program. Watson isn't on his level. Some of you are the same nuts who thought the last guy was a home run, so I know he'd be a good hire. 05-stirthepot

McGee didn't put in the work to make it work, he wanted it the easy way.

you're not paying attention. Ohio won 17 games in the 10 years before Grobe arrived, Grobe won 16 games in his first 3 years at Ohio.

He's the 2nd winningest coach in Wake's history. He's won the ACC and coached in a BCS bowl. I think he could handle CUSA.

Good luck. He would be a great coach for UAB. If y'all hire CJJ, I would love to see Grobe at South Alabama.
