Gut feeling. Would u leave a chance for an FCS championship? Bigger and better offers are a year away if he returned.
So, you're talking out of your ass. Gotcha.

Not really buying it... 19 jobs opened up this year, only 2 have dipped into the FCS ranks for a coach. And those two, Wyoming and E Mich, aren't really much better jobs than UAB if at all. The year before, 2012-13, 29 jobs opened up and only 1 was filled from FCS HC.... Ready.... Georgia State.
I thought army or Air Force hired jeff monken from Georgia southern
I counted them as FBS, since they are now a member of Sun Belt. Even if you count them, point still valid.

Bowling Green hired Eastern Illinois head coach Dino Babers. You are right that even the most successful FCS coaches don't jump to high-paying FBS jobs. I can't think of a single instance where it has happened.

Didn't Tressel go from Youngstown St. to Ohio St. directly? Or did you just forget the /sarcasm font?

edit: obviously not a recent occurrence.

RE: Jim Grobe seems intriguing.......................
Jim Grobe would be an absolute steal for UAB. Don't let the overall record fool you. As noted, in the 20 years before Solich arrive at Ohio Grobe and 3 other coaches combined for 61 wins and Grobe had 33 of those in just 6 seasons. That leaves just 28 wins in 14 seasons for the other three coaches during that timeframe. Gives you an idea of how bad that program was.
He then goes to Wake Forrest, a program with the 3rd worst career winning percentage of all time in FBS, and leaves tied for the most wins by a WF coach and gets about as many wins in 13 seasons as the previous 3 coaches had in 20 seasons. And those 3 previous coaches include AL Groh and Jim Caldwell.
Grobe is extremely well liked by players and fans and is a high character guy. Can't stress enough how big of a steal this would be for UAB. Good luck.

As far as local and some national media members go, UAB would be crazy not to hire Jim Grobe.
I listened to part of the Roundtable on JOX yesterday and they couldn't believe UAB could get someone of his caliber interested. All the more reason to like him.

Because clearly JOX has UAB's interest at heart. We should not mistake 5 minutes of nice conversation on JOX for this being a good hire.

No, radio personalities do not have our best interest at heart. However, from the standpoint of media relations and promotion of the program, Grobe is a name that resonates positively throughout the national sports media.

Grobe is a splash hire and has a proven track record of winning at places no one else could... the same could not be said for Watson Brown when he was hired at UAB... not by a long shot.

Over the years, Grobe had several chances to go to bigger football programs, and declined. Wake Forest was paying him $2,300,000 a year. He would be a steal for UAB. Of course, Clark or Gran would be excellent hires too. This is much better than the last time around when we were trying to decide between Paul Petrino, McGee and Curtis Luper :(

He's going to find the same thing at UAB. I am sure he is a great coach, but I wonder about the fit.
My thoughts exactly. If he thought the support at Wake Forest was bad, he has not seen anything yet. Of course, that 5 year stint at Ohio U might help him prepare for an UAB type situation. At least Clark or Gran would understand what they are getting into.
