The 2014 FB Recruiting Class
Just some overall IMOs. It might interest people to go the EMU Scout website and note that some of the prior English verbals are now ranked nationally at their position ie moving up the rankings. Erickson is one example.

As many of you know one of the criticisms of Genyk was recruiting players that had no other Div I offers or not recruited by other MAC schools although he too concentrated on Michigan first recruiting wise.

English's first two classes were an odd assortment of non appearing JUCOs, suspects and a few diamonds in the rough. But by his third year he was getting more players offered by other MAC schools and more players with Div I offers.

This incoming class so far looks to be a prime redshirt class. I'm not counting on any impact players and have yet to see any evidence that CC has anywhere near the JUCO connections that English and staff had. So far it appears we have some of English verbals, players who had FCS and Div II offers who are considering us and maybe a few more recruiting targets that we offered prior to English's firing. This is probably the best we can do given the tight timeframe of CC's hiring.

Long term though we'll need to get back to where we have been recruiting the past three years in the mix with the rest of the MAC for Div I level recruits.

As I suggested in another post, I hope CC is saving some scholies for players who had hopes of going higher and then become completely open with say two weeks to go and start looking seriously for a home.

This is where are 'blue chippers' will come, if they come at all.

Genyk had a knack for moving under-recruited players to different positions that better fit their talent. TJ Lang, Eric D, and Jason Jones are great examples and there are many more.

RE did not do this as he is not an outside-the-box thinker.

I'd like to see how well CC and his staff do this. It's a great way to maximize the talent you have. Some DII TE might be a FBS OT.

Yeah the more I see and hear CC the more he kinda reminds of Genyk, really looking forward to seeing what offense he comes up with. English recruited better players than Genyk but IMO the development wasn't want it should be ie technique. I think CC and the new strength coach will work to improve what we have. I think even if we are getting non Div I players in this recruiting class redshirting them could be the difference maker.

HERE'S HOPING THAT WE GET SOME COMMITTMENTS FROM THIS WEEKENDS VISITATIONS. SHOULD BE A NUMBER OF KIDS VISITING, HOPEFULLY COACH CREIGHTON CAN SELL THEM ON EMU.

What I like about CC so far is his persona.

RE tried to be friendly but I swear he was more secretive than folks I know who work at CIA and NSA.

CC seems so much more open and willing to open up (than RE) to fans, within the limits of being a D-I HC.

Creighton is a very engaging speaker, unlike Genyk and English. Can only hope with recruiting.

EMU is lucky to have engaging folks like CC, Dr. Martin, etc.

I believe Lyke is very engaging as well. The previous AD was not.

I have not any contact with the new AD, not even to offer my advice, but she seems very engaging to those who engage her.

Honestly, until the Creighton presser, Lyke seemed more recluse than EMU at a bowl game. Yes she has sounded good, but not exactly kissing any babies.

I think EMU is heading in the right way with turning the school and sport program around..
Communication is one of the road toward understanding and knowledge..

Ben Braun won fans over one by one by visiting dorms, civic orgs, etc.

I think CC will do similar.

RE: The 2014 FB Recruiting Class
Craig: not engaging, poor fundraiser. Diles: not engaging, poor fundraiser and budget planner. Weiser (none-the weiser): resume builder; bad attitude; did anything to get ahead, built the Convo, overall bad person to work for; potential crooked deals at Kansas. Smith: somewhat engaging; Wilbank's hire, poor budget planner - put department $250,000 in red with University; learned on job. Not selected by search committee. Paul Schultz: nick name "5 O'clock Schultz" - caretaker and hold over from Agase era. Alex Agase: big name, cigar smoker and eater, arrogant smart ass - caretaker.
