Izell Reese to be a part of the selection process for a new coach
Former Blazer great and Dallas Cowboys Izell Reese has been asked to be a part of the selection process for a new head football coach at UAB.

I hope there are more former players involved in this selection process. Good move by Mackin IMHO.

Great move.
Wouldn't he have also played for John Neal?

Also - Darrin Reeves dad would be a great addition. Could offer perspective of former player, as well as parent.

So should

Otis Leverette
Ron Sigler
Anthony Blevins
Bryan Thomas
Wade Waldrop
Darrell Hackney
and a few more that should be named. UAB can probably find its HC out of its own now.

I'm gonna disagree here. Joe, maybe. Roddy, no

Yes because Roddy is a horrible person since he is outspoken and says things people don't want to hear.

Not my point. I've just always gotten the impression that Roddy is embarrassed that he played at UAB.

I also think that BigDee's post is ludicrous. Being a great player at UAB doesn't necessarily mean he should pick the next coach

Having some former players on the committee would be a great idea.

Having nothing but former players on the committee would be foolish.

What exactly is selection process?

Does this mean that the consulting firm will narrow it down to 5 or so candidates & then those on the selection committee will be those interviewing, etc?

Any other names on this selection committee?

I would like to see Woodrow Lowe brought back to confer as well. It would be a great opportunity to "mend the fence" from the time Wayne Bolt ran him off. Also he is one of the top high school FBHcoaches in the state serving at Phenix City Central HS and has turned out at least a few D1 players - none of which considered UAB. This may be a chance to make things better than they are with him as we don't need any more enemies than we already have.

RE: Izell Reese to be a part of the selection process for a new coach
Izell Reese is the best choice to represent all former players. He is smart, well spoken, objective and his current occupation puts him in front of coaches and recruiters every week. He was already scheduled to be at the AFCA meeting this week in Indianapolis and has a good network because of it. While I respect all the other players, they are not necessary to be put on search committee.

He will be objective and give a different perspective to make sure we get the right coach. Great move by Brian Mackin!

I agree. And to be clear, Izell will not have the final say, but he will be a great resource with whom Mackin can consult.
