How interested are you in college basketball?
Assuming that most folks participating on this board would have their college football interest at a 10, how would you rate your interest in college basketball ((1=little or none) through (10=I live for CBB ))? Reply for both regular season and the NCAA tournement, which may be different. If you're not a ten on football, list that as well.
For me:
Regular season CBB= 6
NCAA tournement = 9

Ten, though the regular season doesn't mean much.

RE: How interested are you in college basketball?
I'll answer a bit differently... the NBA lockout in 2012 opened up a point of view that was not often discussed. It forced the regular season to be pushed back, and they ended up starting on December 25. Christmas, at least in my family, was always the first day that anyone started watching or caring about the NBA season because college football was just getting the bowls going and the NFL was usually in the last week or two of the regular season. I have heard a variety of people suggest that college basketball begin after the New Year's bowl (probably whatever date is the first weekend). I've heard some coaches, AD's, TV folks, and media suggest it. From an academic standpoint, especially eligibility and transfer concerns, it makes a lot of sense to contain basketball to just the spring semester. If schools averaged 5 games over a 2 week period, that puts the regular season right at 32 games in January, February, and March. Play the tournament in April. Most schools have their Spring final exams the first or second week of May. No problem for anyone.
That's my long way of saying that my interest in CBB during the fall semester is about a 5. Interest in spring semester regular season, which is also the conference season, is an 8. Tournament is a 10.

I follow basketball as closely as I do football. If it's WVU sports, I follow it.

"But...this one goes to 11...."
I doubt that's much of a surprise.

RE: How interested are you in college basketball?
Fall Semester is tough. I like to watch some of the Tournies and an occasional bigtime hoops match but my focus is on college FB. Lets call it a 6
After the bowl games...it is probably a 8 or so. So many game on each night I don't get too upset to miss a game.
Conference Tourney 9
NCAA Tourney 10
NIT 4

RE: How interested are you in college basketball?
In terms of following my own teams (Illinois, Bears, White Sox, Bulls and Blackhawks), I'd put a 10 on all of them (although the intensity will naturally wax and wane a little depending on how competitive they are in a given year). More instructive is how much I follow sports *outside* of my favorite teams:
NFL: 10
College Football: 10
College Basketball: 10
NBA: 9
MLB: 7
NHL: 5
Golf: 4
Soccer: 4
Tennis: 3
NASCAR: 0
UFC: 0

RE: How interested are you in college basketball?
I think what folks have posted for UFC is very telling- along with Nascar. I think it shows a problem that FS1 is really giong to have. I think they have their core audience. Problem is that core audience is so limited- I don't know how much growth they have with that. If they get the stuff that will be needed to make the other fans happy- I don't know if they can show as much UFC in particular- and that would alienate their core audience currently. It's goign to be a dicey proposition for them for sure.

I certainly don't understand the appeal of UFC, although I know plenty of people that watch it as religiously as the NFL. It's not necessarily a bad thing for FS1 to show UFC if it's drawing ratings any more than ESPN showing their self-created X-Games that I have no interest in, but they just can't expect it to have any crossover appeal. There are pretty natural crossovers between the 4 pro sports leagues and the 2 college revenue sports, but that's not going to exist for UFC and new age sports.
