Bottomline, if a coach is ballin' and a program is succeeding at a high level and a kid wants to go there.....that's it. Too much connectivity in today's world for HS coaches to act as gate keepers like they have in days gone by.

mc

no doubt scholarships are pulled by other coaches too.
But a coach coming out publicly against Petrino looks bad PR wise for UofL coming off of the bad PR they got with the hire in the first place.

Petrino's reputation is going to be alluded to over and over again because the media loves to take it out on a bad boy. People always wondered why the media never left Hugg's alone...dirty deeds move the needle PR wise more than good guy stories.

Seems to me that UC got pegged like this last year after we hired TT and a couple of scholarships were called into question.

Would have been more impressive if the coach had decided to play the "morals" card (ie. "I wouldn't want Petrino to be a role model for any of the kids that that I've brought along...") but whatever.

The job of a HS coach is NOT to "steer" kids to or away from certain schools. The job of a HS coach is to get kids ready for whatever path they go down. I'm frankly sick of prima donna HS coaches proclaiming that they will prohibit or welcome only certain college coaches onto their campus. They (HS coaches) should either "open" their campuses to all college coaches or "close" their campuses and therefore become totally irrelevant in the process. Not this "power-broker" crap.

If my son were good enough to be recruited by colleges I would make sure he spoke with whoever he wanted to. He would not be limited by the whims of some power mad high school coach.

Petrino does it on a motor cycle.

Petino does it on a restaurant table.

In the words of Hillary Clinton (who knows Bill did it in the Oval Office, etc) "At this point in time what difference does it make"

Both the coaches are scum bags.

Relatively few HS players are chased by multiple D1 programs, so the idea of steering is a little overblown. I would hope high school coaches use their connections with colleagues in the college coaching ranks to help find places for their guys to get scholarships and play college ball.

I'm actually fine with Lousyville hiring Petrino. UL had been getting some recruiting inroads in our area so maybe this clown's reputation will hurt that a little. Be honest, if Petrino, Strong, Tuberville, or potential candidiates UL had in Chad Morris or Derek Mason showed up on your doorstep to recruit your son, which one of the bunch would you least want coming into your home?
