RE: Bobby Petrino interviews at L'ville
This is what I find baffling about the whole thing. Any UL fan is more than glad to tell me that their program is now among the top line programs and takes a backseat to no one in terms of athletic budget, facilities, players, athletic dept. staff, etc...Fine, I get it. Yet despite all this bravdo they hire a serial liar and sociopath who has left a swath of destruction wherever he's been, including UL where 21 of his players had to be dismissed due to disciplinary issues the year after he took off and is documented to have lied in the past to the current AD. When this is brought up, their fans shrug their shoulders and dismiss it as no one will care because he's a good coach, he'll win games and the ends justify the means, blah, blah, blah. Now I can understand a lower level program like WKU taking a flyer on the guy or a larger school taking him on as an OC where he's not the face of the program but if you're supposedly now one of the elite programs of college football, there are plenty of excellent coaches out there without all the baggage. Why do it?

Very balanced and thoughtful article from a local Louisville reporter.

BAHAHA I hope Louisville spends all the money in the world on this staff and it completely blows up in their faces.

It's a head scratching hire. You would think at this point UofL could have hired just about anybody they wanted, yet they chose Petrino. Strange.

No, Louisville fans believe they are a premier job. But, as stated before, this proves they are not.

Out of all the teams we played this year, UL easily had the absolute worst, most delusional fan base.

What I find baffling is how much smack uofl fans talk to uk about their indiscretions or UC about Huggs. They just rehired one of the biggest scumbags in college sports. Sell your soul for some wins. Unfortunately, this is the current state of our society.

Look if Louisville wants to hire Petrino fine... but don't sit here and say "he left the right way last time," "he is a changed man," or "we wanted him to get a second chance." You want to win no matter what the cost... Own it.

Pretty embarrassing presser for that university.

If I were a Loserville fan I'd be happy. He's a winner. I'd hire Satan himself for a shot at a national title.

That's fine but OWN IT. Don't act like this is a good dude who has made incredible strides and is ready to make amends.

You expect them to come out in the press conference and say, yeah, we'll admit he's a scumbag, but he wins and that's all we care about? Come on.

I'm a Bearcat living in Arkansas for about 30 years and got a chance to see the whole Petrino show unfold. i used to think that Falcons fans were too bitter about Petrino and his character flaws - we should all know better about him now. That said, it is not surprising to me that Louisville fans seem willing to take him back with open arms - there is a vocal minority of Razorback fans who would take him back in a heartbeat.

On my way to see UC-Rutgers Saturday night with my brother and my son. Go 'Cats.

Don't have to say he is a scumbag. just don't pretend this is about anything but winning. say we hired the best guy for the job that simple. louisville wasn't winning the press conference and shouldn't have tried.

And when a reporter then asks the obvious question, how does the admin feel about his past indiscretions and the way he left Arkansas, what then? Of course they had to come up with some redemption story.

yes, I've been around since the cusa boards. I don't post much and I really have little to say that is not already said by others who have also said it better - I enjoy reading this board to help stay informed about goings on at UC and for the quality of the UC posters who keep up the tradition of its namesake. Another thing I like is while there are a lot of different opinions, the dialogue manages to stay pretty civil. In contrast, some of the posts on the Arkansas board I read can be sophomoric.

RE: Bobby Petrino interviews at L'ville
Quote:Louisville’s Petrino not welcomed at South

Bobby Petrino took the head coaching job at Louisville last week, but South Gwinnett head coach John Small is not welcoming him back to the Snellville school.

“He shouldn’t spend a dime coming back to our school no matter where he is” Small said.

Before taking the job at Louisville, Petrino was the head coach at Western Kentucky and pulled the scholarship of Comets offensive lineman Dennis Edwards. The 6-foot-2, 305-pound Edwards committed to the program in August.

“I wouldn’t want him to come back to our school while I’m here. That’s bad business,” Small said.

Colleges pulling scholarships from players is nothing new in the recruiting world. Oftentimes it doesn’t go public, but Small wanted to let other coaches know about the situation to protect their players.

“I think it happens all the time. It doesn’t go very public,” Small said. “You do it in Gwinnett County and 22 other schools are going to take notice. You can’t do that kind of stuff. Some of them have no regard for young people. It’s all about them. Our job is to protect our kids.”

there's also a pretty impressive list of commits from that area (e.g. Kevin Mouhon) at this link

RE: Bobby Petrino interviews at L'ville
Proclamations from HS coaches like this are a dime a dozen. Let's say, for the benefit of the doubt that he stays true to this particular one..........does anyone here really think it's a big deal? How many other HS programs are there?

Bottomline, if a coach is ballin' and a program is succeeding at a high level and a kid wants to go there.....that's it. Too much connectivity in today's world for HS coaches to act as gate keepers like they have in days gone by.
