So, in the 11 minutes Austin was in, we scored 1 fewer point than we did in the 29 minutes that he was sitting. SMH.

Not saying that it was all b/c Austin wasn't in, but you won't convince me that there isn't some correlation.

JJ having a terrific first half and a horrible second half was more of a determinant.

1st Half:
11 points
5-6 field goal
1-1 free throw
2 steals
1 assist
1 turnover
3 rebounds

2nd Half:
2 points
1-7 field goals
0-1 free throw (1&1)
2 steal
1 assist
4 turnovers
2 rebounds

Cronin's post game interview mentioned that once they got Jackson under control things began to work in their favor.

Whatever they did will be film studied by all future AAC opponents---I imagine

I think Dixon is who got Jackson under control.

RE: Sad Reality...
you know 2 point shots are cool too.
Not every shot you have to take HAS to be a 3 pointer.
The 2008 squad learned that after the UT game....and was damn near unstoppable after that...as they took the ball to the hole more after that game....and didn't jack up as many 3 pointers.

Yep. Plus the 2008 squad didn't have a legit lowpost scorer really. Dorsey yielded nothing in that aspect so the team did what they were suitied to do best.... penetrate and plenty of motion not jack 3s and pray for the best.

Their size really caused us trouble inside and we couldn't make a shot from outside. The guards trying to force the action led to turnovers. Definitely would have liked to see a couple of our other big (or at least bigger) guys get some time today.

Meanwhile we all keep waiting for our 3 point shooting to come around.

Woodson's presence seemed like a logical move. They couldn't bully him around like they did with Nichols.

That what a coach is supposed to do. Don't just continue what isn't working because it's supposed to work.

I suspect you're a lot closer to the source of the problem than most would choose to admit. There is something amiss in Tiger Nation which should be obvious from CJP's firing of his brother-in-law in mid-season. That and the refusal to adapt his ineffective game plan during games suggests a 'my way or the highway' mentality born of insecurity.

I couldn't disagree more.

This team has no chance of making the second weekend of the tourney by not shooting the 3 ball.

We are an inside out team, and we need the outside shot to fall because everyone is just going to clog the lane and double the post. That inside out game plan has looked pretty effective against, OK st, LSU and USF and several others. Now teams have adjusted and decide to shut the post down and force us to hit the 3. Problem is, we are in a terrible shooting slump.

We can realize its a shooting slump and work our way out of it, or we can overreact and change our entire offense mid season.

The 2008 and 2014 team have VASTLY different types of guards. The difference is the 2008 team had scorers with size like CDR and Rose who could post up smaller guards in the mid range game and had the size to penetrate even when teams were clogging the lane with true bigs.

The 2013/14 has totally different guards who lack the size to post up most opposing guards in the mid range game and don't have the size to drive and dominate bigger players near the rim. JJ and Dixon are too small for that and Crawford is not penetrator at all. Geron is the only one with that kind of size but he is not a natural scorer.

To reach our potential, this team HAS to be able to get out in transition and when it slows to a halfcourt game, work the ball inside out and hit open perimeter shots. THERE IS NO OTHER WAY FOR THIS TEAM TO MAKE AN NCAA RUN THAN THAT.
