He'd be in his recruiting wheelhouse and I'm not discounting it as a possibility, but he'd be taking a pay cut. That's not something you see too often.

Exactly...in the next two years will be either IMO @ Texas or Florida...my hope is to get it over with and bring in someone like a Petrino or Smart with the current roster.

Miami could take Maryland head coach Randy Edsall. We'll throw in AD Kevin Anderson, school president Wallace Loh and UMD System chancellor Brit Kirwan. I'll buy the one way air fare for each.

Strong would take a pay cut at Miami. Isn't max around 1.5 million year?

Why would 1.5 million be the max?

I haven't looked, but per USAToday, apparently Golden makes $2.1M/year. He may make more than that. But I think UL would match whatever Miami would offer. Doesn't Strong make $3M/year+ after Tennessee's inquiry last year?

There is some history there. Strong will never be the HC at Florida. Hopefully Franklin is still around next year.

RE: Al Golden and Penn State?
If Golden takes the PSU job, Miami is best off with Franklin, Petrino or taking a chance and bringing back Jim Tressel. Franklin is worth the risk, he won at Vandy and will get better players with lesser academic standards at almost anywhere else. Petrino has been humbled but probably is has enough swagger left to lead Miami, he's a proven coach at two school, too. Tressel is a proven coach and has faced his own adversity, which Miami is quite accustomed to. They could easily ride out JT's suspension and then let him loose with South Florida talent - scarey!
Schiano would be a disaster on so many levels. His temperament would clash with the South Florida mentality: The School, the area, the majority of his players (South Floridians). His defensive minded football almost leaves offense as an after thought. His recruiting tactics, player development and weak scheduling practices will hurt him, too.

I believe he is gone. His DC is his best friend, many want him gone, but he do not want to fire him. So this give him an opportunity to get more money and save his friendship.

Franklin makes $3 million per year at Vandy. I'll be surprised if Miami gets into a bidding war for him.
I think Franklin ends up in the NFL unless Strong backs out of Texas.

IF Al Golden does leave (There is a divided camp - lots want him gone and lots don't) I think the best bet is Butch Davis. That is what all of the people I've talked to have wanted, they want him back. If Golden leaves, I'd expect a Butch Davis hire almost immediately.

I don't see why Golden wouldn't take Brennan Corroll his current WR coach and recruiting coordinator to PSU? So I don't think he poaches Bobby Engram from Pitt. But if he did, Corroll is a Pitt alum, so we might as well trade.

RE: Al Golden and Penn State?
The general consensus among Miami fans is that we'd like to have either Petrino or Davis as HC (overlooking some of the 'unclean' conduct, both are excellent head coaches, especially Davis). Butch Davis is arguably one of the best coaches Miami has ever had. He set up our national championship team in 2001 arguably the best team ever and I think he could do it again. With him as HC and maybe with Orgeron as DC and Petrino as OC Miami would be a top 10 team right off the bat, no offense to Coach Al but D'OhNOfrio sucks and James Coley's offensive scheme has a foundation of Styrofoam.

When Golden was rumored to be one of the top choices to replace Wannstedt a couple years back, before Miami took him, I was uninspired. I remain uninspired by AG. He's a great fit at PSU. The cult gobblers will eat up his Paternoesque bs.
But Miami needs to keep its recruiting class mostly intact.
I agree that if someone takes Schiano, they are taking a step back.
