JMU to CUSA?
Interesting...

"James Madison, which competes on the Division I-FCS level in the Colonial Athletic Association, is on the verge of moving up to the Division I-FBS level in the near future in Conference USA, according to Nittolo, though nothing official has been announced."

RE: JMU to CUSA?
Question for you as a Miami of Ohio fan.

Does the admin/fans of Miami and the other two MAC schools that CUSA considered adding in 2003 after TCU left for the MWC to go to 14 teams back then regard not taking that deal the way realignment has worked out & the way some teams moved from CUSA to ACC after joining CUSA that season? I think the other two teams might have been Toledo and not sure I can remember if Ohio was other or not.

The "four" teams were Miami, Toledo, UCF, and Marshall. Of course Marshall and UCF jumped. With hind-sight now that the teams we would have wanted to join with have all left, then it was correct to stay in the MAC. Fans of Miami and Toledo would likely be happy with the AAC because the basketball is better, but the current CUSA is currently lagging the MAC in basketball (RPI) and football (subjective). CUSA in 2004 and CUSA today is completely two different conferences.

I thought it was reported that they looked at some MAC teams again when TCU left and put CUSA down to 11 teams (looked at going to 14 with 3 MAC teams as I remember).

I would have to think Ohio and Miami would take a hard look at any offers that came from CUSA even with current lineup as money and exposure is still greater than MAC.

Sort of like Tech, Jonesboro is its own market per Nielsen.

CUSA is not expanding to 16 and unless the P5 expands further, which won't happen till TV contracts or GoR expire, the trickle down realignment we've been seeing will be over for a few years. JMU is on the outside looking in on conference realignment. Their only real option at this time if they want to move to FBS is the Sunbelt.

For the record, you can make any promise you want in recruiting. A few years ago Lamar was telling recruits they were going to be joining the Sun Belt, when they had no chance in hades at ever getting an invite.

This. It's certainly possible but it proves nothing.

I could be mistaken but I think the old coaching staff at JMU was telling recruits about their impending move to FBS ever since they announced the expansion to their football stadium.

RE: JMU to CUSA?
Quote:"He committed to Appalachian State this morning," said Todd Wofford, Central Gwinnett's coach. "They are moving to Conference USA in two seasons, and he wanted to be a part of that. He loves their facilities, the guys on the team and the stadium. He likes how they spread the ball out and says he can come in a make an immediate impact."

That's a quote from Malachi Jones HS coach after he committed to App 2 years ago. So I would take this with a grain of salt.

If crazy addition threads are going to fly around, can we make them about Notre Dame, Texas, Oklahoma, or Alabama? At least make 'em interesting.

JMU might want it but I doubt CUSA is offering to others at the moment. I bet they let WKU come in next year and see how that goes before they think about ANYONE.

And IMO, the expansion talent pool is very slim that would IMPROVE CUSA over its construction next season.

Plus, it would break up the MTSU/WKU rivalry, unless someone was leaving

RE: JMU to CUSA?
I don't think we should count on anything coming out of a high school commit. I know Banowsky wanted to go to 16 at one point, but I think the ADs and Presidents shot the idea down. I think most of us are fairly happy with 14, so hope this doesn't happen. 14 is fine for football. (6 division games and 2 cross division, one home, one away.)
