We had no business in the BCS conversation. None! We are not a bad football team, but certainly not a great one either. We were out coached the last two games, badly. I have spoken to former teammates tonight and honestly, we are as disappointed in tonight as any loss in years.
I said it on the day they hired Carey , that this was a knee jerk reaction move an the guy just doesn't fit the mold for me to be the head coach of an elite program. He just doesn't. It showed tonight. No swagger, no moxy, none of the things that we need to survive as a mid major power. We are/were truly a one trick pony.
You guys can bash me all you want on this board, but we are headed toward mediocrity the next few years. Hate me, but it's true. If we are what we want to be, we beat this Utah State team with their 3rd string QB by 3 scores. Period. Tonight, more than any night, proved the Palmer's, and the Herbstreit's absolutely correct. very few coaches would have done any worse with the team they were left after Kill.
I hate to be this way, but I feel like we are headed in the wrong direction after tonight. Tonight was a bad product. Period, and extremely disappointing.
I truly appreciate all of the players and will always be a fan. A huge fan as a former player. But that doesn't mean I need to be happy . I will always love our school and be a huge , huge fan. Very proud to be an alum. Just disappointed int eh way things ended this year, and where I think we are going.
I love fair weather fans..We aren't Alabama, any SEC, or top tier Big 10 team, or even Boise St(though we are similar to the 2002 squad in terms of growth possibilities from here).. We are a second tier school that must win with 2* and 3* players and have a good strategy and hope to get to the mountain top like Boise did and TCU(though they have been exposed a little when playing against top tier teams every week).
You sound exactly like the moron who sat in front of me during the MAC championship game:
Part I: Yelled at everyone one in the stands that we weren't cheering loud enough and that's why we were losing the game.
Part II: Starts blaming players for having no talent, no effort and sucking
Part III: Calls NIU a fraud, experts we right, don't deserve to be here(MAC championship)..
These games were lost based on strategy not anything else.. Both teams came in and followed FSU plan to a T, contain Jordan Lynch, make someone else beat us...
It works for multiple reasons:
1. Lynch can't make a pass with people in his face
2. Coaches continue to ride the horse that brought them this far(Lynch) and rightfully so and neglect all other options.
3. Defense is porous(though played well yesterday).
I think the play calling has to get better..and it will next year because they won't have one of the greatest MAC player ever to rely on and bail us out.
Defensive scheme has to get better..
