3 offensive coaches are gone. Edmonds & Newsome are gone. Clayton will definitely be gone I think. Am I missing any other departures already announced?

Left? on offense:
-OCain
-Chambers

Left? on defense:
-Gillenwater
-Hanson
-White
-Bradshaw
-Lezotte

Clayton has apparently been hired by Newsome, so yes - he's gone.

Would not be surprised to see Coach Edmonds back in Harrisonburg sooner or later.

Yes, but since he has never had a staff of his own, he would be a lot more willing to try new people. I could see him give position roles to people like Lezotte so that he can focus on hiring an OC and DC on people that he's worked with before.

Some of it may be a question of budget as well. I'm sure there will be cases where there's guys he'd like to bring in but JMU just can't support it. I'm almost certain he'll retain a couple guys.

5 of MM's 10 assistants were JMU football alums. 2 have departed, 3 are left:
-D WHite (DL assistant)
-Bradshaw (strong safeties)
-Lezotte (secondary)

I can't imagine at least 1 isn't retained. Ironically the 1 who was by far the most decorated of the 3 during his JMU playing career, Lezotte, coached the unit that struggled the most of any on the team last season (secondary).

Yeah, but I really don't put any of that on Tony. You have your starting CB dismissed for off field violations, your starting safety goes down for the year due to injury, you convert a WR to start at corner in 2 weeks, and you try to convert a young QB to start at corner? Who in the world would get good secondary play given that set of circumstances?

RE: Wither's Staff
Withers stated that he wants to have his staff in place by EOY. Tells me he knows what/who he wants and expects get it. Keep in mind he will be doing this while coaching at OSU, meeting existing staff and players. Per one quote, he has been seeking the right opportunity to be a head coach for 3-4 years. This indicates he has thought about it and knows what he wants. He has a plan that he is excited to implement and he is excited to be doing it at JMU.

Changing his twitter page to a JMU motif and following today's JMU vs Hampton Bball game as evidenced by his quote congratulating the bball Dukes shows he meant what he said about community and JMU involvement. Having watched several youtube videos of interviews with Coach Withers, I really like how he handles himself. There is one interview in particular after the 2012 OSU vs Michigan game where he discusses game preparation and in game adjustments. He speaks candidly of specific adjustments in scheme and the basis for those adjustment, then praises the players for their understanding and execution on those adjustments. Very enlightening.

I have spoken to one FB player and he is very excited to "have a new boss" and he really likes Withers. I think Coach Withers is going to win the players' hearts and minds rather quickly. Now that is a motivational coach.

Coach Withers has my complete support and I am anxious to see his plan unveiled.

On a small tangent, can safely assume the practice of recruiting 7 QBs for the purpose of converting them to other positions is officially a thing of the past? God would it be nice to recruit a cornerback to play.....CORNERBACK!

Can you imagine having all that is on his plate right now? It the holidays and you are traveling. The to-do list includes hire an entire staff, win a bowl game with another team, recruit, buy a house and move. Just a regular December for coaches I guess.

It was a joke smart-ass! So, since you obviously didn't understand, I will spell it out for you ... No, I do not REALLY think that Mickey would accept such a job. And thanks for the medical advice, but I didn't need to take my meds to recognize a jerk when I hear from one!

How do you know he's going to do that before the summer? Doesn't he have school age kids? Might not buy a house and move his family till the summer when his kids are out of school and he's not completely swamped like he will be over the next 4 months. He might just rent something for the next 6-7 months...

Do you realize how hard it is to recruit players at thier natural position on the FCS level. If your a very good standout corner in highschool your probably going to a FBS school. Taylor is a gifted athlete, which is why we have him because he has no natural position. I think by his senior yr he will be a all-conference type player if he puts the work in. None of the defensive bakcs i played with were recruited because they were good corners in high school. I played running back and linebacker in high school. recruiting DB's on the FCS level is a hard task.
