You know, I remember being in my early 20s back in the 90s and realizing that MTV was becoming a problem in our society. I remember hoping it was a just a phase. Over the years, I watched the problem spread. I watched as we moved into an age of materialism and dysfunction. Now we are at critical mass.

I really feel sorry for this generation. They have no clue.

Materialism & Dysfunction basically describes the history of the world. Every generation thinks we have reached critical mass a decade or two after their prime.

If by that you mean that we've seen Obama's ego put himself first and foremost in everything he does and we're all now used to it, then I'd agree.

But if no one really cares, it would probably piss Obama off more than being criticized. He needs to always be on the front page and above the fold - unless it's regarding his leadership, then his ineptitude is politely buried in the back pages between the horoscope section and the crossword puzzle.

Arguably, that's because every generation is already conditioned from birth to view the materialism & dysfunction of their parents' generation as "normal". Yet as those children reach adulthood, an entirely new wave of perversity washes ashore, and suddenly those adults take a turn being "worried" and their children take it in stride, because that's all they've ever known.

So even though the social dynamic runs on a continual loop, the underlying conditions really are changing. The question is whether those changes are for good or ill.
