Hugh Freeze wins ten games and a SBC title and goes to Ole Piss after one year. Gus Malzahn replaces Freeze, wins ten games, a SBC title and goes to Auburn to play for a National Title. Bryan Harsin replaces Malzahn, wins a SBC title(shared) and is hired by Boise State after a 7-5 record. Played at Boise and coached there for ten years.
ASU got smart after Malzahn left though. Harsin's contract included a $1.75 Million buyout that has to be paid to ASU in ten days by Boise. With that cash in the bank, look for them to make another great hire. I just hope for the players, this coach makes it past a year.

Apparently, Harsin took their early season Memphis loss, learned from it and made adjustments/corrections while Fuente on the other hand......oh nevermind.

Anyone's better than your boy, Larry Porter...

Yeah, Drew. Fuente is settin' Tiger Lane on fire. Tiger offense finished 115th out of 123. As someone posted earlier.....UConn is lovin' this, and Temple too!

Still better than Larry...

We don't push stable to any recruit. No one is that dumb at our school.

We sell the school...not the coach. We tell recruits to commit because they liked the school, and not because they care for the coach. Sure, we lose a few every year like any school in a coaching search, but we've yet to see a significant impact on our recruiting, while we have seen the number of interested applicants going way up. We have a few MAC head coaches who have sent applications in if you believe our AD.

We pay more than most G5 schools as it is, and pay our assistants more. It brings coaches in.

Unless they are moving from the Sun Belt to the Big 12, it wouldn't matter. If Ole Miss, Auburn, and Boise State offer jobs to just about any G5 coach in the country, they are getting them.

Very true. I would take their success on the field over keeping a coach every time.

With the exception in stAte's case, I agree with your statement. For some reason, it works for Arky State. They should keep at it. Hire great names or those with great potential. I think their players have come to expect it and it won't affect team morale one bit. And they have a good record dating back 5 years. Besides it is difficult (not impossible) to keep any good ones in such a small town environment for a long time. But for the most part, stability is huge for any team sport (maybe even individual sports). I would prefer FIU going for long-term stability over pursuing big names every year. We should know - look at our BBall team.

Let me guess... Terry Bowden?

The claim was that it was from a coach that had a bowl game to prepare for. Though we are all sure Bowden is interested. I've heard that its the guy ironically at Ball State. There is a lot of concern in Muncie that administration doesn't care enough about football for long term success...plus he wanted to coach at freaking Wake Forrest. That and we can pay more than twice what they can.

We'll hire an offensive coordinator at a major program. You can bet on that.

We've got three style of coaches here. The John Brady's, who have since admitted since taking the job that he plans to retire and stay in Jonesboro. Then we have the young coach who has a young family who wants to come in for a few years, put his kids in our highly rated school systems, and settle for a few years. Our baseball coach fits that mold. Since coming in, his family has fallen in love with Jonesboro and he's actually turned down a few jobs (Including MTSU) to stay.

The third is the football coach who wants to take advantage of the free house and two free cars that we provide, bring his family in for a couple years, win a bunch of games, and then move on for a bigger job. Both Harsin and Freeze would have lasted longer than a year had the dream job not come. We just rented Malzahn from Auburn essentially.

Not to my knowledge. And to not miss a beat and remain competitive in that amount of time is equally as remarkable.

Kansas State during World War 2 was the only other school to have 5 coaches in 5 years. But Something tells me they left for reasons other than a better job...

We like our little niche. If we win another league title next year and lose the coach again, I don't think you'll find a single one of us complaining. Besides, its really amusing watching Arkansas fans offer ridiculous suggestions of local High School coaches because we "cant do any better" only to hire a major college assistant a few days later to stunned "Why would he go to JONESBORO" comments.
