Still, that kind of consistency in their weekly TV games has to help them more than the numbers seem to indicate.
GMG!
PS: Amazing (and sad) how Bowling Green's win over NIU the other night cost that conference around $8 million, though.
That's what no conference movement (in either direction) gets you....a stable product that can be planned for.

RE: C-USA T.V. Ratings
I've looked at these ratings as well and question the findings. It appears as if the blogger calculated results based on the Sports Media Watch numbers, but he/ she doesn't list the methodology used. I'm assuming conference games count as two appearances, but I can't get the math to work either. Also, how were OOC games accounted for (ratings/number of viewers)..split down the middle?
I noticed that FS1 quit showing CUSA Sat. games when hubby asked me on consecutive Saturdays to find games he was interested in (Tulane and USM). I checked FS1 and there wasn't any football on. They were showing a car race and those fights where grown men beat the snot out of each other in a cage and people pay to watch it. This was early afternoon. I guess their football coverage didn't start until later in the day. I realize early kick offs might not be great for fans, but CUSA should press for this open Sat. slot on FS1.

As I commented earlier, FS1 only showed one C-USA game on Saturday. The rest were reserved for CBSSN. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe CBSSN has Tier 1 and Fox has the Tier 2 in terms of selection order. They're both paying about the same.
It almost appears that in order to keep the monetary value the same we told them we'll just take whatever you give us. I don't get the impression the league is actively trying to help influence who picks up the games and when. We need to be more proactive. There's no reason why FIU/FAU game would be on FS1 last Friday while Marshall and ECU were playing on CBSSN - at least not until CBSSN has many TV sets as FS1 does.

On that same board, it was also posted that Louisville and Rutgers were involved in the vast majority of the top drawing AAC teams. Those ratings will take a hit when Louisiville and Rutgers depart next season. So, in reality, CUSA is doing very well, if the comparison is AAC.

C-USA T.V. Ratings
4 of CUSA top 5 rated included a defector. There's a reason why our tv parter CBS bought a bunch of AAC games from ESPN.

Not according to the listed numbers, but FS1 is only in year one and needs time to grow. So, it's not a fair or complete comparison. Besides, it's apples to oranges comparing the old contract to new. The new contract calls for Thursday, Friday and Sat. games on ESPN platforms (more appearances than under the old, but I have yet to see a definitive number) ...realistically there will be more on U and NEWS than 1 or 2. Three ABC OTA games should really help with ratings. I'm sure those will be some of the better OOC games...still GREAT exposure. The Championship game will either be on ABC or ESPN1. IMO, these are some of the things CUSA should push for in the next go around...more FS1 and a couple on CBS OTA or Big FOX.
TbL, IIRC you're right on the CBS portion of the contract...at least that's the way I remember it when ESPN was involved, but I could be wrong.

RE: C-USA T.V. Ratings
In order for a network to be considered National... it must be included on basic sports tier in more than 80-million US households.
Thus... the OTA networks (over-the-air stations) ABC, CBS, NBC, and FOX... then cable networks like ESPN, ESPN2, and now ESPN U (which just recently hit the magic number); NBC Sports Network is national, and FS1 is national but has lots of terrible dial positions. CBS Sports Network is nearly there (and will likely get the magic number in 2014), but like FS1, has poor dial positions.

ICE, any idea on the actual numbers for CBSSN? They are "available" in more than 90 million homes but that doesn't offer any insight into how many households actually purchase the extra sports package CBSSN falls under. I would like to know how many households they are actually in.

On DirecTV CBSSN, FS1 and NBCSN are all on the regular tier and in the low 200's on the dial, just like espn. That should help their numbers and enable them to be more easily found. Don't know about the other carriers.

I looked at only conference games and now realized that we only had one Saturday game that was on a recognized national network and that was Tulsa vs. UTEP. All others were on Thursday except FIU/FAU, which was on Friday. Below you will see the game, the viewership and then any competition for those Thursday games. Again, the others were not included in the national network counts. I only did C-USA games. On the surface, it looks like we would only be ahead of the SBC if we looked at conference games only, but that's on casual observation. If you want to go do the others for a comparison knock yourself out. I didn't really have time to do this.
FAU/ECU - 181K - Thurs. (No competition)
Tulane/La Tech - 124K - Thurs. (Big 12 and SBC = 3.65M)
Tulsa/UTEP - 148K - Sat
Marshall/MT - 91K - Thurs. (SEC = 1.33M)
Rice/UNT - 108K - Thurs. (AAC and SBC = 969K)
Marshall/Tulsa - 155K - Thurs. (ACC - 2.06M)
Rice/UAB - 79K - Thurs (AAC - 972K)
FIU/FAU - N/A - Fri
I did not do the non-conf games, but I definitely did not see 40. Perhaps they counted CBSN games but didn't include them on the site?? Just not sure how they came up with the numbers. However, as you can see there our average was 126,571 viewers for conference games on national networks. So, we don't have the full picture because a lot more conference games were televised than this and it's really not clear how they came up with the numbers. At this point I cannot draw any further conclusions.
Attendance Champions again!

WKU had an avg. of 229k over three games. (There was no data for WKU vs UK on ESPN NEWS on August 31st.)
Saturday, September 28
0.1
152K
2:00 PM Navy Western Kentucky ESPNEWS
Thursday, October 3
0.1
81K
7:30 PM W. Kentucky UL-Monroe ESPNU
Tuesday, October 15
0.3
456K
8:00 PM UL-Lafayette W. Kentucky ESPN2
I don't think that the UK game ratings would have adjusted those figures much since it was on ESPNNEWS, a network no one tries to watch live sports on.
I am hopeful that FS1 improves as it matures. It's worst case potential is ESPNU territory in my opinion.

I think ESPN-News and Fox Sports-1 are probably about the same in that regard. They are both networks that have not yet become familiar places that viewers regularly check for games. No game on ESPN-News has yet broken a .1 other than Texas A&M vs Miss St---and that only scored a .3 -----A&M usually scores at least 10 times higher than that.
