It's plane tracker season!
Lembo and Wake is too great a match not to happen.

Once again, wouldn't be my first choice as a "step up."
But I suppose if Duke could pull it off, then Wake can too.

No, but potential career derailer.

No, but potential career derailer.
What happens on these 'high risk/high reward' advancements.
IF it fails, the coach moves back down but collected a lot of $ in the failed effort to be the next David Cutliff.
Lembo could go to Wake and fail yet come away a relatively wealthy man.
Even a 'bad outcome' isn't entirely bad...
I saw that with former EMU assoc. head coach (hoops), Gary Waters. He went to Rutgers after a very good stint at Kent. It didn't work out at Rutgers and now he is doing very well at CLE. St. and collected a lot of dough from Rutgers. I'm sure he is set for life and a lot better off $ than if he had not gone to Rutgers.

I get your point. But that makes sense if it's your only option. I suspect Lembo would be considered for other opportunities.

Career derailer? I would take that risk for $5 Million.

Gill at KU..
LEft UB to make 5* as much and then crashed and burned, was paid out his contract, and is now at Liberty..
6 Million+ for 2 seasons at KU. If he does well at Liberty he will be at the FBS soon enough.

The flight map was indeed the Wake Forest AD. In Muncie right now.

RE: Lembo going to Wake?
Realistically, even a job like Wake is the peak of most coaches careers. Grobe made a nice living down there the last decade. Be bowl eligible more years than not and you can stay there a long time. Win 8-10 and you might get a shot at a higher job if the right job is open and you want it.
Kansas made the Orange Bowl a few years ago, Baylor is nationally relevant, Vandy is competitive and Duke is playing for the ACC title. I don't think I believe in career blackholes anymore.

RE: Lembo going to Wake?
Wake is definitely not a sexy football name but Lembo recruits well there. There are quite a few NC kids on the BSU roster including the starting RB. Problem is, when you start making that money, it's win now.

Didn't a Grobe-led Wake Forest team win the ACC in 2006?

RE: Lembo going to Wake?
WF went 11-3 in 2006 and won the ACC.....
I was not a MAC fan in 1995 which wiki says was Grobe's first year at Ohio. He went 33-33-1. Was Ohio that bad that 33-33-1 was impressive? Just asking.....

If Limbo takes the Wake Forrest job, I will consider it in the same sense as Tim Beckman taking the Illinois job----a lot of money in return for the high probably of an embarrassing end to a head coaching career. In both cases I think that each could have done better by simply waiting for a bit. However as you point out, even if they fail, they come away with what should be enough money to live comfortably for the rest of their lives, particularly if they augment their income by picking up an assistant coaching job somewhere or maybe even a head coaching job at some FCS school.
In Beckman's case I think that his age (early 40s) was a serious factor in taking the Illinois job. The Toledo cupboard was far from bare but I think that he was afraid of waiting any longer for a more attractive offer so he grabbed the "brass ring" of a big payday as soon as it was first within his grasp regardless of the downside.
Lembo is almost as old as Beckman was when he went to Illinois so his "biological coaching opportunity clock" may also be a factor. With Lembo's situation, unlike Beckman's, I am not sure but what Ball State may be taking a step backwards next year, certainly at the QB position. Besides Lembo was head coach at Elon for a while and may have come to like living in the Triad area of North Carolina.

RE: Lembo going to Wake?
Put it this way: when I was at CMU in the early 90s, Kent and Ohio frequently finished the season with 4 or fewer wins. I can recall one seaason where one team was 1-8-1 and the other was 2-7 when they played. Both teams, I think you'll agree, are much more competitive these days.

RE: Lembo going to Wake?
Grobe had some good teams that would have gone to bowls had times been different then. Wins over Minnesota, Hawaii, Maryland during his tenure. The previous two coaches were 9-44 and 8-45, so Grobe laid the groundwork for Ohio to become something solid (groundwork nearly wiped out by the guy before Solich).
I think if you asked Grobe, he'd say WF was not a career derailment. He got time, had some success and fizzled out naturally. Lembo might get an offer from someplace "better" but maybe a higher pressure, 3-years-and-out gig.
