Well, yesterday proved you have most of the land mass in VA to go with you.... Include WV which we didn't have last time.
Land mass may not vote, but it's really good to have.
The great divide will be about takers and makers. I suspect Texas(because of its size) will be the headquarters for a large land area.

Eventually the makers will tire of supporting the ever increasing number of takers. Kind of like the woman I know that has been on WIC for two years and just purchased herself a brand new Honda Pilot.

It's already happening. The red states are flourishing, while blue states are falling apart. The problem is the takers are fleeing their hosts to red states. Coming in with with their ultra ignorance on who really caused them to leave.

Keep dreaming. America's wealth comes from Blue States. Red States are the ones that are sucking at the Federal Teat.

It really depends on how they made their wealth.

Wrong. America's wealth comes from private industry. Red states encourage and protect that. Blue states stifle, regulate and inevitably repel that.

Blue state "wealth" is fiat money.
Red state wealth is actual cash made by selling finished products.

I worked with a guy worked spent a few years in Memphis. Years after he left he till bitched about the place every goddamned day.
I had some friends come in for the weekend...hit up Cooper-Young, Overton Square, Highland Strip, Memphis Zoo, Brooks Museum, the Pink Palace..ate at Central BBQ, Paynes BBQ, Tops BBQ, Pete and Sams.
They were shocked...they had a blast and never once went to Beale, Graceland, Corkys, Rendezvous...there is SO much to do other than the tourist traps.

Charlotte has always been that city, that despite having far more registered dems than republicans, has often had republican mayors and city councils that have largely been willing to work with each other.
I fear that is starting to change though. If Cannon wins mayor today I'm not sure Charlotte will even be run by a republican again. His opponent is very centered, so if that guy can't win, no republican will again.
I lean left, but I don't like the guy that is running for mayor as a democrat and I hope he loses, but I'm pretty certain he won't.
The governor is the reason it will be a long time before Charlotte elects another republican mayor. Pat was a great moderate republican that worked with the democrats in Charlotte. As soon as he got to Raleigh, he changed. Many democrats in Charlotte voted for Pat for governor and most will never vote republican again.

Local politics is often more about steering contracts than kitchen table issues. In Virginia, the cities don't even run on party labels. It is really who belongs to the club and who is friends with the swindlers. It is amazing how well democrats and republicans can work together when it benefits personal bank accounts on both sides.

The dynamic changed when he went from Charlotte to Raleigh. He didn't have a legislature to please, or the pressure from his own side in Charlotte.
