They lost to Southern Utah on a last second FG
They lost to Tennessee on a failed 4th down and goal play
They lost to Troy on a hail mary
They lost to Texas State on a last second FG
They lost to Arkansas State despite having the ball down 1 twice in the last 7 minutes.
That is some insane bad luck.
Yep.. with a few very minor twists of fate, USA could be on top of the conference right now. That is tough. I have great respect for their team. They keep fighting.

By the way, anyone who has not seen video of Brian Davis 50 yard FG of this game should check it out. That thing comes off like it was shot out of a cannon. It would have been good from 65 yards.

12 points over 5 games. 12 points. That's something to just sit and stare at. I'm sure it's happened before. I feel sorry for them too.

Showing my age here, but I clearly recall in the sixties, when Charlie Mack was heading LSU a season similar to the one South is having. LSU lost to Rice, and a few others that year. All of the loses were by one to three points. At the end of the year I think they missed a perfect season by nine points. Of course I do not recall how many one to three point victories they had.

Tennessee beat us by a touchdown, but the other 4 losses are by a combined 5 points. Very frustrating. I can only hope this helps us in the future.

I saw that, and right down the middle too.

Next week, South will be hosting a highly ranked Bye team. We will fall behind early, storm back to take the lead in the 4th quarter, then blow it, losing by 2 points as time expires. The Bye fans will all be impressed with our team, and think that we will win out.

I think it shows USA is developing very well and have made an great addition to Sun Belt football. Tough season but we lost many games last year after leading at halftime. It was hard to watch but I think it made the team stronger this year and with the added depth and growth have allowed us to make big plays late in the game that were missing last year. There really isn't a weak link to the conference. You could argue GSU but you can see with their new coach they won't be horrible much longer once his recruits get some experience.

I was shocked at how well ASU's defense performed. We were without 2 of our top 3 DL and that position already had less depth than other positions in a big way. It was Ryan Carrethers and a bunch of guys who have not played much at all before this season. Also, Q. Lee had something like 16 tackles. He had the best game I have seen a defender play at ASU in the bowl game last year so he apparently likes playing in that stadium.

You just gotta admire a fan with a sense of humor.
BTW, I heard through the grapevine that Bye's coach will be looking for a better position next year....hint hint.

I'm irritated with CJJ, not ready to fire him yet. I said that 4 wins would be good season this year. And we should get there.
Now if we lose to Georgia State, then his seat will get hotter.
And if we cr*p the bed in our first game of the year (like we've done the last 2 years), the calls will start to get really loud.
But even if we finish 4-8 this year, I can't call this year a failure. Next year, we expect a bowl game, even though we lose Metheny.

RE: South Alabama vs ASU
I really, REALLY feel bad... especially for our seniors who deserved to win at least half of those 1-2 point losses USA's suffered. They've put their hearts and souls into this program but for what? 5 losses by a COMBINED 12 points in their last year of eligibility. REALLY????
USA's Juniors, underclassmen and especially, the COACHING STAFF (that's right, they burn/refuse to burn timeouts at CRUCIAL times in the 4th qtr) should be ashamed. I'm still shaking my damned head over this. Like another USA fan pointed out -- this has NOTHING to do with luck, it has EVERYTHING to do with a coaching staff having its team ready to play and ready to W-I-N. PERIOD. / end rant.

No, what you don't get is that those seniors have known since they signed on that their venture would probably not be fruitful with wins and glory. They signed on to build a program from nothing, and if you ask me they have done a pretty decent job. You can be mad all you want, but the fact is that in your second year in the SBC football people are not overlooking your team. Ask a team like WKU what it feels like to be overlooked and stomped on for years, heck just ask your new conference mate GaSt what it feels like. Your transition hasn't been that bad, and those close games are a sign that you guys are building in the right direction. Be patient, your time will come.

You know what? You're absolutely correct. I had just enough brewskis last night to let the fingers fly without thinking first (a real prob sometimes when you type 70+ wpm)....
