Plus it would make football seem less important.

RE: Mackin Needs To Go
How would a soccer facility make football seem less important?
I don't know a ton about the Met. If it is used for football, soccer, and baseball, that is incredible. I know when I was in high school, Hoover HS had a great soccer field. There is also the complex down on 280, which is where I would've expected the college cup to be played at.(although I'm not sure they have a championship field with adequate seating) I'm surprised they decided to use Hoover if the field is multi purpose.
I have played soccer my whole life. I have played on some absolute **** fields.(I played at Discovery Middle School while in high school at Bob Jones) What I have always found is that when football and soccer share a field, football gets to make the rules, and soccer gets to live by those rules. Our soccer program is not broken right now, and I'd hate to see us do anything to potentially mess it up.
As pointed out earlier, the dimensions aren't exactly the same either, so this can make it difficult for all parties involved. I hope UAB football and soccer get the facilities they deserve someday, I just hope it's not the same thing.

Because they get nice things and we don't.

It is incredible, in the sense that it's amazing they can pull off three sports in one venue. The quality of the experience, at least for the fans, is not incredible. It's a terrible place to watch even a high school football game. So much of the seating is so far away from the field, and about half of it is behind one endzone. The away seating is pretty much perfect - you can sit on the fifty just above field level a few feet from the sideline if you want to - but it's all portable bleachers.
The last time the soccer world cup was in Hoover, their only complaint was the condition of turf. That's a pretty crucial thing to screw up. They had a certain window of time to get the new turf on the dirt part of the infield to take, and they planted the wrong stuff and had to start over.

At this point I think soccer has better facilities than football.

Yes, I was using the word incredible in the sense that they can use it for three sports. In this day and age, that doesn't happen so much. And I would imagine the problems you listed would exist without knowing anything other than it housed multiple sports.
And I agree 100% on the soccer issues. You can't mess the one thing up that soccer needs.(a clean, level playing field) That would be my concern if UAB tried to put it's football and soccer field in the same location as well. I'm not saying it can't be done, it just isn't ideal.

What is the they and we crap? It's all UAB.
Every other sport is much less important to me than football. I can't change who I am. I was born this way.

I'm sure the women's volleyball team will be comforted to hear that.
They're all Blazers to me. Every damn one of them. Just because I like football more doesn't mean I think we should short-change every other sport.

Agree. If it were my daughter, I would want her to have equivalent or better opportunities, equipment, etc.

I want all of UAB's team to win, even though I might not follow them as closely.
I consider all of UAB's teams "We"

I'm sure the women's volleyball team doesn't know who I am and doesn't care what I think.
I'm not trying to short change other programs. I'm just an extremely fairweather bandwagon fan about anything other than football. I'm not even that into basketball. I have no interest in college soccer.

That's too bad, because it's a sport we're good at.

Which is why if we can't make it work, get out of football which is holding basketball back in a crap conference.
I would be fine with UAB going a Gonzaga, Marquette, or Georgetown route. It would certainly be less embarrassing than the products we've put on the field and court in the past few years.
If Microsoft isn't giving up on Windows Phone, there's no way in hell UAB should give up on football.
