I know I was seduced in the dimension of football successes (not sexually).

RE: The official fire Kathy B thread
As Hoople and others have said, if Dunn forced KB's hand in Fleck's hiring, then she can't be held too responsible.

That said, I wish she was a bit more proactive in nipping the overreaching boat/traditions thing in the bud, being his boss and all. I admit I don't know the inter workings of how it all goes down, but I imagine all these radical changes he brought would've had to "pass inspection" first.

Still, her previous hires from Cubit to Hawkins to Blashill to Murray does indicate at least a solid track record in our major sports.

There is no way in the world he ran this by kb or anyone else. I think he has free run of the place like a 16 year old with his parents out of town. But when a few things got a little out of hand it seems someone got him to reel it in a tiny bit.

WTF?? PJ still seems to be snowballing the administration.

http://www.mlive.com/broncos/index.ssf/2...cart_river

Complete faith of the AD after a 1-11 season and an ugly loss to a bad FCS team.

Quote: I couldn’t be more happy with the cultural foundation that’s being built both academically, which is still a major priority, and the success on the playing field."
Didn't we have academic success with Cubit? Is Kathy throwing him under the bus now too? And what tangible success has PJ brought on the playing field? These highly touted (verbal) recruits have yet to make it onto the gridiron (Corey Davis, excepted.)

No wonder no one with a reputation wanted the HC job when it was open. (I did hear that an up & coming DII coach was interested, but that was only rumor, as far as I know.) Why would anyone want to go work for this kind of leadership?

I read that as academics were a priority under Cubit, and still are under PJ.

She doesn't have a choice but to support PJ. Her ship is tied to his at this point. If she goes public claiming they made a mistake with hiring him...it turns into a nightmare...and likely gets very expensive.

I would expect her to stand by him unless 1. academics become a HUGE issue or 2. we have player behavior problems that become widespread.

I breezed through the column pretty quickly because it was really a lot of boilerplate "PC-speak" served on a platter for media, which is about what I expected. We weren't going to get a peek into what she privately thinks, not at this point anyhow. Echoing EA3, the financial situation is what it is, and that means riding it out at least 2 more seasons.

Temper it down a bit. Maybe something like, "I know this year things didn't go as well as expected, but I think patience on all of our parts will be rewarded long term."

THAT is what I would expect someone in her position to say when the train wreck that he/she just created is still careening out of control.

Also, don't insult our intelligence and then turn around and have a Gary Fund sponsor call and blow smoke up my butt about how good things are going as a result of her speak.

You asked, before you start crying.

Me too. I read it rolling my eyes. All I can think is that if she REALLY thinks those things, then she either isn't paying attention or is just as ridiculous as PJ is.

But I have to believe that she is taking the PC route and supporting her coach publicly.

I did find it interesting in that article that our recruiting class is now ranked 50th nationally. Wasn't it 29th a month ago? Once again all of the hype about a class before many of the real recruits are signed by the programs that actually matter. I can see it being about 70th by February.

She also didn't have to go on and on about the Championships that PJ is going to win. I like exactly what you said above DB. Just be honest and say things didn't go quite as expected this season, but that you are confident in the things that PJ is doing to move the program in the right direction. And then stop talking.

A former player who is/was in the NFL asked her directly about the hire, she repeated the same mantra to him as you're reading here. She's all in guys.

The stop talking part is key. We're getting too much of that out of the Athletic Department, and no results. BTBC.

I think that's pretty close to EXACTLY what she said, according to the article:

Quote:Beauregard said she did not expect a 1-11 record in Fleck’s first year, but she said she believes a championship season is on its way to Kalamazoo.

“It’s going to happen,” she said. “It is absolutely going to happen. I don’t know exactly when that’s going to be. It doesn’t happen overnight.
