I call that going all in. As DB said, she could have reduced the rhetoric quite a bit. I'll buy that she has to support him another year. But please, temper the enthusiasm and adjectives a bit. She just sounded like a mouth piece for PJ. (Or Dunn, for that matter, but at least he's her boss.)

I'm not saying I do or do not agree or support one way or the other, but this is about as SOP as it gets. She answered the questions exactly how you would expect any A.D. in the country to answer them after a disappointing season with a first year head coach.

Nothing to see here. 07-coffee3

Saying THERE WILL BE a championship is a lot of huey from someone who's presided over NONE as an AD. How does she know? Based on what observations and experience. And, to that note, we'll decide if we want to discuss or not, thanks.

I am perplexed by the kind of take it or leave it approach.

Stonewall. Not an attractive stance.

Proof is in the pudding.

How many times did she use the word ELITE out of context? I'm not reading that garbage.

BandBronco13.

I see you viewpoint and in a way agree with you. I don't think she has much choice but to publically support her football coach and her hire. You are correct that she in fact did basically say that year 1 didn't go as expected. So I probably overreacted to what she is saying.

Here is my problem. What did she expect? Most of us here saw last season coming a year ago. To honestly believe that a championship is coming in the PJ Fleck era is a pretty big stretch. WMU has NO history of fielding championship teams, PJ has NO history of ever being a head coach and if anyone honestly thinks that they are going to go from the debacle we saw last season to a champion in a season or 2, they just aren't paying attention.

Again, I understand having to support the coach you hired. Especially considering that your reputation is sitting as much on the hire as his is. She just needs to tone it down a bit. And maybe also realize that we are tired of PJ already and its time to just let things settle down a bit.

Waldo - thanks for the courteous reply. 04-cheers

Considering the expectations set forth when Fleck was hired, I think winning a MAC championship by the end of his contract is a fair expectation by the AD (and fans). Especially because that's what we've been hearing from the beginning.

Now, should he be fired if he doesn't deliver that? Depends... but I have a feeling we will know by year 3 (2015 season) whether or not this thing is truly heading in the right direction.

I don't know for certain, but I think Kathy will retire on her own before another football hire has to be made.

She is of the age, and no doubt tired of being told how to run her department by male presidents, and then having to take the public falls.

Are you saying Judy Bailey was a male president?

How many think Kathy goes home and says "Nailed it" about the hire? Does anybody?
