Why hasn't the economy improved? I guess they're waiting for midterms, like Obamacare mandates.

People who don't work typically don't vote. If they are too lazy to work then they aren't going to bother to vote.

One thing motivates the lazy to vote and that's promises that they will be able to continue mooching from the rest of us.

Fo's suggestion: Cut the military budget?...sure...lets go 30%

I'm in favor of the 30% cut across the board.. so let's go for 30%

Quote:Bring home our troops and place them on our borders
Fo's note: Bring home the troops...sure...but they are soldiers not border police. How about just arresting the hell out of those that hire illegals.

I'll disagree with you in half, here Fo, and side with UofM. Border Patrol = Protects our country from foreign invaders. I could accept using soldiers for that purpose.
I do agree with arresting/fining illegal hirerers though.

Quote:End most all foreign aid

Do it wisely when you do it though... Again, Aid = Aid, not just a payoff for being an ally.

Quote:Increase the minimum wage
Expand SNAP/Medicare/Medicaid
Fo responds: Fck increasing any of those government program or increasing minimum wage.03-puke

I'm with Fo' 100%. Let the MARKET decide who gets what in terms of wages. And HELL no to expanding more govt. programs (again, 30% cuts ACROSS THE BOARD)

Quote:Legalize/tax marijuana
Fo: No problem with legalization of Cannabis.

Again, I'm not a pro-legalization supporter... so I can't side with this.

Quote:Install a consumption tax to help the poor and get the economy booming. Lots of problems you are concerned about go away when people have jobs.

Here's one I have a slight issue with. Anyone remember what happened to the "yacht sales tax" and THAT industry? It bottomed out and took forever to bounce back. A consumption tax is not an "end-all/be-all" that people seem to think it is.

Not true at all. Working takes 8 hours a day 40 hours a week 50 weeks a year to get your bills paid. Voting takes a few hours a few times a year to get your bills paid.... and we make it as easy as humanly possible for people on assistance to vote... with polling places and voter registrations often where they go for their assistance anyway. MANY who don't work are highly intelligent and skilled at maximizing their efforts. If they don't vote, they might have to get a real job. There are entire niche industries for people who know how to work the system.

That is industry specific and related to a purely optional purchase. The whole reason VAT works in Europe is because there is virtually no way around it. It would probably hurt the "professional" resale industry for capital goods, but not the private resale one... as it is a "consumption" tax, the tax is targeted to consumables. Not to mention that a 6% VAT on a yacht is worth tens of thousands of dollars while a 6% vat on the average family's monthly grocery bill is worth $30.

Tell that to some starving kids.

Who was the last kid who starved in the USA?
Unless a parent does it on purpose which = murder.

Not to mention the food banks located all across America...
Obviously you have never been to one.

Obviously you have. And yet you still have a job and make enough money to have internet.

Just a comment about the prepackaged microwavable dinners that everyone on here seem to hate. I don't think my mother ever took government assistance, if she did she never told my brother or me. However, she did work 2-3 jobs my entire childhood. I would see her in the morning and then again around 8 or 9 PM. It's hard to cook every meal for your family when you are constantly working just to pay the bills. My brother and I ate microwavable dinners quite frequently because it was what we had to do.

I'm not saying that is the case for everyone who buys them, just one situation.

Not necessarily true.

Although, logically, those that earn more vote more.

I think the point was that microwave dinners are somewhat more expensive (and less healthy) than scratch cooking, and that people who don't work 40+ hours a week should have time to cook. Obviously that isn't the case for everyone... but it is certainly the case for some.

My college student son likes to buy those un-crustable frozen PBJs. It's been a while but as I recall they run about 60 cents a sandwich. I once showed him how buying a container of PB and J and a loaf of bread made FULL sandwiches for about half the cost as an economics lesson when he was in middle school. He told me he recently weighed the value of the 30 cents savings vs the convenience of having them "on demand" and not having to keep fresh bread and he decided he could do with Diamond Shamrock coffee instead of Starbucks once a week and keep his frozen PB&J.

Life is about choices.
