1968 Nippert Stadium
Bo Schembechler's last game as Miami coach.
UC down big at the beginning of the 4th Qtr.
Homer Rice UC's coach holds up 4 fingers to signal the beginning of the 4th Qtr.
Greg Cook, O'brien and Rossely crank it up.
Jim O'brien kicks a 48 yard field goal into the wind (toward student section) to win it as time expired 23-21!
That was my first Victory Bell game as a Frosh and my best friend (a Miami grad) standing next to me!
Couldn't have been sweeter!

This. Other than the win over Pitt at Heinz Field to clinch the Sugar Bowl berth, the 1968 game was my favorite UC victory in 55 years of watching Bearcat football. Greg Cook to Jim O'Brien and Tom Rossley. It was the "Hurry Up" offense 25 years before its time! And for those that were not there at Fed Ex Field in Washington last year, the win over Virginia Tech with Munchie's hail Mary pass ranks right up there as well. Sitting in the middle of the stunned VA Tech fans was priceless.

My family and I were sitting at the goal line and the catch happened right in front of us. It doesn't really get any better! I don't remember many of the games from my college days (daze). It was the early 1980's so need I say more?

My favorite as well. I remember my friend running across the field after the game was over and ringing the Victory Bell with such abandon that some of the players looked a little taken aback. Good times....

I agree. The 1996 game was the best for me. Then the team stormed across the field and took the bell after overtime. (not sure how many)

My best memory is the way that G-Man used to tear apart the ForeSkins message board with his wit and wisdom. It was a thing of beauty!

I believe it was Sky King that ran back a touch down on the last play of the game...

Like the Illinois game,,, you can get homered at Miami....

WITHOUT a doubt. My Dad taught me at a young age when it comes to this rivalry that when you play Miami in Oxford you better have the game well in hand before the 4th quarter starts because things have a way to start turning Miami's way. And I've seen it more than just against UC so I know there is validity to it.

Be up by 17+ or 21 before the 4th quarter starts and you're safe. IMO.

Wow! Incredible. Didn't know that. On the phone to my Dad after this session. At least an hour and a half conversation once he gets going about this I am sure. He'll remember that but not remember what we did last week. Argh!!

I attendend the game with about 30 other folks split almost evenly between Redskins and Bearcats fans. Both Miami and UC were pretty decent that year, it was Miami's final game of the season, and for that time period, the crowd was rather sizeable. UC wins 20 - 10 in a well-played, hard-fought game by both teams.

Danny Barrett, Bill Booze, Deno Foster, Antonio Gibson, Don Goodman, Allen Harvin, George Jamison, Mel Jenkins, and Urban Meyer were on the roster. Brian Pillman was a Redskin at that time.

If my memory isn't completely lost, the next weekend against the Howard Schnellenberger coached Miami Hurricanes our Bearcats lost 19 - 13. Time expired when the 'Cats had the ball on Miami's goal line. I think both Jim Kelly and Bernie Kosar were on the Hurricanes roster at that time. The 'Canes won the National Championship in 1983.

Good post. 04-bow
