Think about it, this effectively blacks out home games even IF you get espn3. They often don't show them in the same region the game is played. Another plan to boost ticket sales?

The only times I can think of when I have seen ESPN3 games blacked out is when the games were being picked up by another network like SportsSouth, the old CSS or a local station as part of a network like Raycom Sports.

I could be wrong, but I've had it tell me that quite a few times. We'll see, I guess.

Quote:What is a Blackout? How is my location determined if the event is blacked out?

Blackouts apply to telecasts that have been sold regionally or locally per league, conference and local rightsholder agreements. Regional and local rights holders are usually broadcast stations or regional sports networks. Blackouts are implemented to protect the primary rights holder, as defined by the professional and college sports leagues or teams in a given market. If you are receiving blackout messaging on WatchESPN, check your local listings to find the television network carrying the event.

If you see a message that states, "This content is subject to blackout", this is because the event that you requested is not available on WatchESPN in your location. Your location is determined by your IP Address. If you are connecting with a mobile device and believe you are incorrectly receiving blackout messaging, try connecting via WiFi. If you continue to receive inaccurate blackout messaging, please contact our Customer Care Team at 888-549-ESPN or @ESPN_FanCentral.

It's a bit annoying that one would have to be tricky in this way, but you can download a program for free that will mask your IP address and get around IP based blackouts. I've only ever had trouble with blackouts if the game was simultaneously being broadcasted on a TV network in my area that I did not have through Directv. I would happily use pay per view if ever offered.

If you don't subscribe to a provider with access to espn3, my work around has been to use a relative's Charter email address.

Again, I would personally be happy to pay espn3 (who could relay to the tv network) a pay per view premium for espn3 access to games I want to watch, but it's simply not offered.

I am pretty upset about that, as I don't get ESPN3 but could easily get the web streaming from the conference channel this past year. I am pretty sure most people do though.

Thought I'd bring this back up for the people like us that don't have access to ESPN3. I recently discovered SlingTV. It's a legit web streaming TV service that recently launched. For only $25 a month you can get all of the ESPN stations (including access to ESPN3). If ETSU is still planning on showing all their home games on ESPN3 next year then I'll be subscribing once the season starts. See the packages they offer it's a great deal for the chord cutters like myself.
