Agreed. I saw Illinois offensive linemen with double handfulls of UC jerseys all day long. They may have called holding once. To but it bluntly, the officiating was bulls***.

Yep, Mouhan looked pretty upset after a few blatant holds that weren't called. It looked to me that one time he was dragged to the ground. I think Tuberville got pretty pissed a few times at the refs as well.

RE: B10 Calls UC...Admits to Error
All we could do is hollar cheaters and that they s/b ashamed for their conference and they did not even look at us...College sports are so crooked it isn't even funny! This could have been a win for UC which scored 17 straight points and had all the mo....Actually Munchie would probably not have been hurt either because the whole game flow changed. Totally disgusted with College officiating and we always are on the wrong end of their mistakes. I would send the notice from the BIg 10 to the ACC and the Big 12 officials what a difference it would have been we would be in the top 25 and still alive for a a perfect season and a much better resume for the power 5 move.....WOW they stink!

He absolutely was (pulled to the ground). It was bad, bad, bad.

RE: B10 Calls UC...Admits to Error
So the B10 called an admitted they made mistake......big deal. The fact that there were 2 mistakes that occurred within a 3 minute period where the game's outcome was in doubt makes this more "sinister". The fact that the 2 calls were ruled on in exact opposite fashion (ie. overturn 1 in the face of zero evidence and not overturn the other in the face of clear evidence) in favor of the home Big10 team clearly raises the question that this was not "random incompetence", but rather was a biased intent to alter the outcome of the game.

IF there were any real ethics and credibility involved .......then the Big 10 would not simply announce 2 mistakes were made............they'd enforce some type of suspension/penalty for the people involved.

The argument as to whether the 2 calls "influenced the outcome" is really not relevant given how truly blatantly incorrect they were against both the definition of the "rules" and the video evidence available. Those involved deserve some sort of penalty/punishment simply because of their actions on those 2 plays.

No wonder the betting line dropped from 13 to 7.5.

Blatantly blown calls undermine the integrity of the game because they make everyone question the motivation or competence of those officiating the game and the blown calls in the Illini UC game aren't the first time you question them. Some teams just seem to always be the beneficiaries others always the goat.

Anyone remember the Gonzaga game Chuck got tossed from? With all of his years of basketball you think Chuck didn't know what he wsa seeing?
How about the XU OSU Elite 8 game that OSU won with help from the officials?
What about the end of the OSU National Championship win over Miami?

The apology from the Big10 rings hollow unless they are going to negate the Illini's W (which they won't).
Blind, biased or on the take?

Big 10 tells UC that Legaux replay call was incorrect
09/13/13 at 9:39am by Tom Groeschen

(Updated 4:23 p.m.)

UC football coach Tommy Tuberville mentioned on his weekly radio show Thursday night that the Big Ten had notified the school this week that the incorrect call was made on the Munchie Legaux touchdown reversal in last week’s game at Illinois, a 45-17 Bearcats loss.

Tommy Tuberville (The Enquirer/Joseph Fuqua II)

Tuberville today declined comment when asked to elaborate, but a UC source confirmed that the Big Ten had been in touch with UC to say that the replay call was wrong.

UC athletic director Whit Babcock said in a statement today:

“I’m certainly disappointed, as it really impacted the momentum of the game and our kids fought so hard to come back from down 21 (points). But there is nothing we can do about it. We will focus on what we can control, and that’s the next 10 or 11 games of the season.”

UC also was told that a possible fumble recovery by linebacker Nick Temple should have been awarded to the Bearcats.

In the game, UC’s Tony Miliano made a 37-yard field goal to pull UC within 11 points, 21-10, with 11:02 left in the third period.

A key sequence came just a few minutes later, when Legaux appeared to score on a 1-yard TD run. The PAT would have made it 21-17, but the TD was overturned upon review, with the call that Legaux actaully had fumbled the ball forward.

UC then nearly got the ball back again when Temple appeared to possibly recover a fumble, but that review also went against the Bearcats.

In his postgame press conference, Tuberville said:

“(Legaux) said he got it across and one of their guys ripped it out. Unfortuantely they reversed it, but it’s got to be conclusive. It just took the air out of us.”

One day later, Tuberville said:

“I’m not gonna throw anybody under bus. I was on the national rules committee when the (replay) ruling was put in. … There must have been some different angles they saw it from, because the ones we got on film, there was nothing there you could reverse it on. In the pressbox they must have had another one.”

There being many other plays in the game, Tuberville made another thing clear:

“Just to put it bluntly, they beat us pretty good.”

The Enquirer also has contacted the Big Ten office for comment. Scott Chipman, Big Ten assistant commissioner/communications, said via text that he would look into the situation and try to respond. Chipman was in meetings and traveling most of the day.

Does anyone know where one can get the videos of these specific plays? Kind of funny, go to the Illinois board, and they are just as sure as we are that the calls were correct! We see what we want to see, I suppose.

At that point, the offense had been playing well and the defense had been swarming. After that, they seemed to lose a step and then the Munchie injury was the final nail in the coffin. Had both or either of those had been correct, I do believe it is a different game. UC has momentum and Illinois is starting to tighten up some. Don't know if we would have won it or not, but it would have been a totally different game.

The defense "lost a step?" Illinois got ball on the one foot line and took it 99 yards for a touchdown.

I'm sorry, but that's inexcusable.

I thought the instant replay call was one of the more unusual things I've seen for a while and think it was the wrong call, but there are a number of other things that came into play where UC shot themselves in the foot.

Agree it is horrible to give up that drive.

But the drive before that they were really attacking and pushed them backwards forcing a punt. Then after the TD hose job, the defense was still attacking and took the ball away, but then lost that review as well. It just seemed at that point the defense and team seemed to decide it wasn't there day and they just seemed to lose focus again.

Good teams don't do that, so they certainly have a lot of growing to do. All the injuries mounting isn't helping either.

I guess I look at it from a "what UC could have done perspective" first.

Again, I agree the instant replay call was a bad one, but I look at what put UC in the situation in the first place - going for the TD on 4th and 1.

I'm not saying going for it was necessarily a bad call, HOWEVER, UC had difficulty punching it through. Refresh my memory, how many plays did UC have inside the 10 yard line?

There was a risk in going for the TD on 4th and 1 and UC lost that bet. Sometimes it's better to take the points and go for 3...at least it would have been SOMETHING and less of a momentum buster than that call was.

As I was watching the game the little voice in my head was saying "go for three," just because things didn't seem to be going our way.

I understand your point but the issue really is that UC DID NOT in fact lose the bet. By the ref's own call and the B10's subsequent admission, UC WON the bet and had it incorrectly taken away. Therefore, no emotional letdown, no 99 yard drive, no opportunity for a 2nd missed call. Maybe Illinois comes back after the touchdown and scores again, maybe they don't. Point is that if the one call, in fact if either call is made correctly -- what turned into a 45-17 blowout is at worst a much closer game and at best a UC victory.

All that aside, I liked the 4th and 1 play call. I'd rather lose with that call that not show that confidence in the kids. IMO, to kick a FG there gives the Illinois D a victory and gives the momentum back to them. Going for it, sends a message to the UC team, especially after it is successfully converted.

We are going to have to agree to disagree on whether the bet was won or lost. I contend the bet was lost because UC didn't get the 7 points. We agree the call was wrong, but you can't disagree that it wasn't close enough that someone couldn't pull that stunt and overturn it.

Yeah - the video was the game I watched. Doesn't matter if you are a UC fan or fan of another team those were bad calls. So were the myriad of missed holding calls. My work colleagues, who are not UC fans, said they were awful calls. Heck, the B10 now says they were bad calls.
