So? We already do that, and hear it, so what do we lose? If we can have even a few hundred of those season tickets stick after the first year we'd grow the crowd, especially over time.

Hahaha I forgot about that! Classic.

I know people can get banned for things on this board, is banning for stupidity one possibility for our "special" half fan.
I like the idea of giving it to graduates. The alumni society gives a first year free membership to the graduates.

It's a great idea. New graduates see very little tangible from the one-year of free membership, but this would be something they could use. I would love to see it implemented.

The proposition rests upon your priority. Is the possible expansion of support among state college grads more important or is possible hurt feelings by a few and possible ridicule by a media from whom we don't get respect anyways more important?
Also, Memphis is a half state or more away from most of the other large state colleges in Tenn. while UAB in B'ham, being centrally located, is relatively close to most colleges in northern Alabama. Some have their own football teams but are not D1 so we might have a chance to draw from them. To adapt a good idea from another school and possibly improve on it to make it better for UAB is just common sense.

Wow, you are still here, with this stupid idea.
The IDEA came from MEMPHIS and I happen to think it can be adapted to serve UAB's situation and desire for more state patrons well. Maybe it is a more adventuresome tactic than UAB wants to try, but that is their decision, not ours. Perhaps Dr Volker would find it appealing as well since he promoted larger dreams.

I think doing it for UAB graduates is smart. It will help build the core of the fan base a bit further.
I doubt that grads of UAH would give a rat's patootie about UAB football tickets, and UAT grads would simply laugh themselves sick at the very idea. This is why you're not getting any traction with doing it state or system wide.

If we offer it to other campuses, then other schools, then where does it end?
We'd then be pilloried for discriminating against high school graduates.
Stick to UAB alums. It's not like any of those other campus folks would give a damn about coming to our games anyway.

You may be right about UAH grads since they have tickets to their own school's hockey matches. Seriously, I was primarily thinking that a lot of state college grads move to or return to homes in the Jeffco metro area and most won't be able to afford (or perhaps care) to buy Bama or Auburn tickets right away. That is the market I was thinking UAB might target. The UAH and other northern Alabama grads might be approached for a one year "sampler" just to see if some might become "hooked". It's just like samples given out at grocery stores to try to get you to buy and try a product one time - they hope a "first time".
We could maybe count on a local boost since the UAH AD (and his former Golden Girl wife) are UAB graduates themselves.

Hey! I went from "genius" to "idiot" (or vice versa) in consecutive Memphis Blazer posts. LOL
I'm not the one suggesting anyone "to settle" for "not real football" as stated - those are YOUR words. Now IF UAB continues to suffer 3-9 - or worse - seasons for the rest of the decade, and the revolving door for coaches that might entail, then it will not be a good idea to try original marketing strategies. Maybe we will then become a statewide joke then like equating Larry Langford with Dr. Joe Volker as applied to visions for UAB like BG 88 thought cute. Do the 2 of you also believe that a 20,000 undergrad enrollment and a 25,000 seat stadium is "too ambitious" for UAB?

Giving away free tickets to any Tom, Dick, and Harry that walks by the ticket office would make UAB a joke.
For attendance to matter, it needs to be paid attendance. Giving a year of free tickets to alumni doesn't devalue the product, builds loyalty, and gives alumni a feeling of value for signing up with the NAS. giving tickets away to everyone just says desperation.

That is NOT what I suggested. I suggested a selective list mainly made up of current college graduates from instate universities who have returned to or moved to the Jeffco metro area or live in the northern half of the state who express an interest when invited to attend UAB games. Since UAB has the only D1 program in Northern Alabama, there might be many who would take us up on trying a free sample and come back for more in the future. That's hardly "every Tom, Dick and Harry" since less than 15% of Alabamians graduate from ANY university or college.

Since many have discussed the number of UAB students who support other universities (like the famous "Houndstooth hat" twins), it is likely that a UAB ONLY program would not be more successful than a more general program aimed at potential fans who might have graduated from other schools and moved or returned to the Jeffco metro area.

I assume you meant the only FBS team, not Div 1, and UAB is hardly "North Alabama", it's no more north than Tuscaloosa.
There is no way you can rationalize giving free tickets to alumni of other schools based on the fact that they are alumni of other schools. Giving free tickets to literally anyone who showed up would actually make more sense, even though it would be a terrible idea.

Geez, Louise. There is a limit on how many different ways a person can say the same thing. What say we consider all ideas and suggestions in this thread as duly noted and move on?
