Labor Day weekend game against an FCS opponent...We typically struggle with attendance when we have a home game on Labor Day weekend. With that said I am not too upset, our base of core fans that will come no matter what continues to grow so that is progress.

Thanks for the picture.......it is my understanding that ODU did not sell its allocation and returned 1000's of tickets......sad if true. ODU fans (attended) were super, too!

I read that there were thousands of ODU fans there, so they must have bought them from ECU's ticket office or ECU fans.

If you guys would just build that damn endzone facility you'd have a really great looking stadium.
What? I am confused by your post, we have an endzone facility...I assuming you mean the new tower with a new press box and suites. If so I agree but we had more pressing needs that had to be addressed...I think additional upgrades to Dowdy-Ficklin will be our next major athletic facility project.
I think he was referring to Tech

Wish I could have taken a good crowd shot. My new lens to shoot the games with doesn't shoot wide enough to take the crowd shots like I did last year. Granted, the action shots are a lot better.

+1 on ECU
Don't you guys sell out basically every game? Figured that wouldve been the case especially with ODU not too far away.

Bad attendance all the way around, granted no one was playing a name opponent. ECU's lowest attended game since the expansion in 2010.
North Texas has to do better. Come on guys that was your home opener. The score was great but need more butts in the seat. Maybe a bowl game this year will do the trick.

We had a lot of fans there. I was home side 8a and clearly heard the odu chants over the ecu crowd several times. 44k with little holes here and there up top and around so that number seems about right.
Such a great atmosphere there. Very awesome fan base. But relatively quiet last night? I have been to several games there but it was like 6 or 7 years ago, and seemed to be pretty tame from what I remember.

By looking at the photos it looks like more than 46k. UTEP has had that same issue where the stadium looked over 45k but announced attendance was about 40k. I guess naturally people will take up more space if they can.

They had been alotted 4,500 tickets, returned 1,000. So 3,500 plus a maybe 2,000 more who bought directly through ECU.
Here how tickets break down, (assume max season tickets are sold, unsold season ticket go to general Adim.)
12,500 student
29,000 season tickets
4,500 visitor
That's 46,000 of 50,000 leaving 4,000 up for grabs, mostly picked by students. Average season ticket sold is 23,000 leaving another 6,000 up for grabs, but take 2,000 away for reserved seating. So at most for game there will only be 8,000 tickets left, the students as state early usually pick up half of that. There were plenty of no shows, I know many more tickets went out than 44 and change. ECU has been working on going to tickets scanned and moving away from tickets sold. Knowing with added student pick up that we were close to 49,000 we had a lot of people that didn't show up and some that just stayed in the parking lot drinking. We would have done it last year, but we had some games where half the scanners didn't record correctly reporting half the actual tickets scanned.

I think ticket scanning is more for the purpose to stop multiple use of a ticket and counterfeiting. UTEP has used the scanners for several years now and I don't think they are used for the purpose of tracking attendance, well, at least not reported attendance. Every school uses tickets sold, even the pack of 5, it would be virtually impossible for any school to report a sell out if they went by butts in seats..

North Texas attendance prolly would have been better if the heat had not been so bad. I have several groups of friends that tailgated for awhile and then left because they were overheating. We need later starts to early games. There is still too much sun at 6pm

I understand the optimism for larger attendance, but I wouldn't label those numbers as "bad attendance all the way around." Four of six games drew more than the respective program's 2012 average, and one of the two that drew less was only 22 short of the 2012 average.

6 yrs ago we had great D that would get multiple TOs. Now we are always waiting for a big play and another easily obtained 3rd and long. No D = quiet(er) fans. Still gets ultra loud when it counts at the end of close games or against big name opponents.
