What would you call it?

Timely? They'd just taken a cheap shot at our QB. And I think we were near 4 down territory anyway. I mean I wouldn't have called it probably but I'm not a coach... so. Im sure he has a good reason for it, and if not... well thats his prerogative.

I've looked at the game recap. The fake punt occurred in the 4th quarter with fewer than 5 minutes remaining and a 63-9 lead. If it's four down territory, just run it up the middle on a traditional play.

It was about execution. Coach was (rightfully) upset with the sloppiness of our team throughout the game. As far as I could tell, Savannah St was still trying to score so we kept playing too. If Savannah St didn't like it they should've stopped it.

Our kids only have 11 games to play this year and their stated goals are to win every game and score as much as possible. I'm proud Coach showed enough restraint in removing the starters because they were sloppy and needed more work.

Expect to see more of the same next week.

The faked punt came after our QB was given a cheap knee to the helmet by a SSU player while he was on his way back to huddle. CJM called an onside kick when the game was at hand a couple of seasons ago at Wofford after a cheap shot on our kicker. It's just what he does, you play dirty you get punished.

the ssu band was also playing during the whole game and even played in half time forcing our band to wait on them. classless school, I wish we woulda dropped 100 on them.

Actually, I noticed our band staff signal to SSU band to start playing before Southern Pride took the field. Southern Pride was all in attention, watching SSU band play.

Outside of that, I've never been to a CFB game where a band plays for a solid 5 minutes during multiple snaps.

UAPB did the same thing today. I think its an HBCU thing. That was the first band I had ever run across that actually played while a team was taking a snap. I didn't know you could do that.

Fair or not, it only makes you look bad. You shouldn't get chippy with a clearly overmatched program. What good comes of it? Oh, you beat them by 60 rather than only 42?

I really don't see RUTS as being a real "punishment" in cases like this. Best case scenario, you rub their noses in it a little harder, but in a game they likely knew they had very little chance of winning. Worst case scenario you tick off an already chippy underdog and you end up losing a key player in a blatant cheap shot.

This mentality will bite him in the ass if he keeps it up.

Yeah, really. Why isn't their a rule against this?

SSU almost killed the atmosphere of the game with their non stop blaring. It was distracting, obnoxious, and rude.

No one wants to hear all that banging and clanking and tooting for 4 straight hours. Their provocative dancers probably made some of those families with kids uncomfortable.

That's the thing, I don't think you can. Part of me wonders whether or not the HBCU's get a lot of leeway on this by officials. 90 percent of their games are against each other, and it was pretty clear from talking to UAPB fans today, that the band is the big attraction at a SWAC game.

Yeah, this one was even worse than I thought it would be. Still don't understand why we didn't try to schedule SSU (and Mercer...and hell, why not Reinhardt?) this year. Who knows, maybe we did try.

If you watched the game, you saw us run a lot of strange plays all night. I honestly think they were practicing especially with so many new people in the game.

If they just wanted to run it up the first string would have stayed in. A lot of them were pulled in the second.

The last time we played Savannah state the team was penalized after the band was warned multiple times to quit playing while we were snapping the ball.

I've noticed that Coach Monken at times will work on things like this under live game scenarios. Some take it as un-sportsman like, but I don't think it is intended that way.
Against one opponent Georgia Southern had a comfortable lead but and did an onside kick. The funny thing was it got kicked right into the bread basket of a receiving team player who promptly ran it into the end zone. Talk about a gift lol !
Then against Furman last year coach went for two on a late TD. Watching the game on the Furman live feed, their radio broadcast team went irate. CJM was questioned about that by our media and he stated that he coached his team right up to the end of the game, and was preparing them for it when they might have to run it in a close game late.
Some might say that is what practice is for but when its against an opposing defense it is under "live" conditions.

Now this is what I call un-sportsmanlike lol !

My though is that he is just getting it our of his system. He's not going to have a lot of opportunity to run it up against legitimate FBS programs.

I won't do so far as classless having not seen it but it does strike me as questionable and imagine that it's just bad Karma. Stuff like that has a way of coming back around.

I'm amazed we scored so many points after we came out so flat in the 1st Q, it sounds dumb now but I was worried about the upset until halftime
