I'm sorry that you don't get that Josh didn't inherit a 'ferrari' roster wise.
He didn't have enough players to go 1 on 1 in practice with.
I'm sorry that you Cal apologists keep trying to gloss over the state the program was in when Josh got it.
The 'well' of elite level players had dried up when Cal left (you can be a 4 or 5 star player and not be elite. A knuckle-head like Eric frickin Bledsoe passed us over)
Elite level coaches didn't want to come here....heck some damn MEDIOCRE coaches didn't want to come here (and they didn't even know about the NCAA yet).
The big-time cameras that had been here when Cal was coach...disappeared with him to Lexington
The level of respect the program had garnered under Cal left with him too.
The administration had to find a guy who wanted to be a head coach now....who could also recruit....and who might stay anyway once he found out how deep he COULD be in if the NCAA hammered us.
Luckily for us all, that guy was Josh Pastner.
PS My name isn't 'folks'....my name is Glenn
that is the second time I have seen it said Josh did not have enough players to go 1 on 1 in practice. Anyone who would say that is not worth discussing this with. Maybe you meant 5 on 5. Maybe you just dont know what the hell you are talking about.
as for the cal circle jerk thing, I am not even debating who had it better coming into the program anymore, I am simply pointing out that there is no reason trash ex tigers (one who was from the area) to try and prove some point. I think all three of the guys I mentioned were fine college players that would have gotten significant minutes at over 90 % of D1 programs. Some seem to think they were a waste of a scholly. As a Tiger fan I prefer my stance.

No one trashed any ex-tigers.
Stop pretending they did just to defend them and then congratulate yourself for doing so.

I'm not 'trashing' any Tiger. I am extremely proud of all of our Tigers. Even small time minute guys like a Jon Albright.
In what sentence did I TRASH a player? The point I was making was that the talent Josh inherited wasn't up to the standards we had become accustomed to in 4 years or so. They would have come off the bench in years prior...suddenly they were being counted on to become starters.
YES they would have started at a USM, UAB, SMU, Rice or damn near any other CUSA school. But as you know...there is GOOD...and MEMPHIS GOOD when we talk about special players that have come through our program.
You see me as 'slamming' the young men we had left...when nothing could be further from the truth. I am extremely proud of those guys. They stuck around through a very bad situation...and made us all proud.
While we were a shadow of what we had been....that was still a lot better than many other teams in CUSA.

every one of those guys mentioned (kemp, mack, sallie) was "Memphis Good" and Albright was a hell of a player. your sense of "memphis good" is warped at best. A shadow of the best 4 year run in the history of college basketball? Well no crap. So was the rest of the country including that UK team with all "our" recruits. Like I said, warped sense of history and what "Memphis good" really is.

@earthboundmisfit
"A knuckle-head like Eric frickin Bledsoe passed us over" because he chose Cal over Pastner. It is what it is.

Not trying to single anyone out, but Earthbound Misfit is the same guy who said Shaq Goodwin could work his way into the 1-9 pick in this year's draft. Case closed.
