Serious Question from ODU
As we look forward to facing ECU in about a week, We keep hearing that ODU has never faced a defense as good as ECU's. I realize that ECU is FBS, but I believe that they were either at or near the bottom statistically in terms of FBS defenses. They should improve this year, but...
Are you guys buying the idea that this will be the best defense we've faced? Honestly, I'm more concerned about our defense in that game than theirs. Just wanted your opinions.

Their depth on D will be the big difference. They will be able to cycle players in and out, particularly on the DL. It may not be the BEST 1st team D ya'll have faced, but the 2nd/3rd teams are usually much better than FCS.
A fast based offense like ODU's should limit the substitutions, so we'll see. ECU's D has been a joke in years past.

I'm sure there are some folks on the ODU boards that have a high football iq that know your team, your conference, your schedule, and your opponents, well enough to answer this very "serious" and important question.

Aside from the purple color, it's hard to distinguish the boards at times.
Nonetheless, I asked youir opinion and got it...

RE: Serious Question from ODU
I think Heinecke will move the ball against them at will. He is that good and Wilder is a great offensive mind. The bigger question is will ODU's D be able to stop them?
That is a serious answer.

I would suggest that your defense and Nova's are at least as good. Nova's front four were monsters against us last year (plus we played poorly as well).

Don't mind discussing football of other teams, but when you are on our board with a picture of scooby doo laughing at the CAA, the conference we are in, and the board you are on, asking us for input on a "serious" question it is hard to have a serious discussion. Good luck with ECU, the JMU tech game taught us that anything can happen in this game.

The starting 11 probably are but like a poster commented on earlier, they'll have far more depth and it'll show later in the game.
I can see ODU putting up 30-40 on ECU...unfortunately for you guys, I can see ECU dropping 70 if they had to.

That'll change soon. I have some nice gifs lined up for this year's opponents.

RE: Serious Question from ODU
Well I'll turn the question slightly.
If and when JMU makes the FBS, how do you think you will compete? Let's say your transition comes in the next 1-2 years so you have your current team/system more or less in place with one year of transitional recruiting. Does JMU have the ability to compete with a team like ECU?
Do you think that you'll have to get through 3-5 years of FBS recruiting to compete for games and the conference or do you have a fair shout in the first few?

Very few teams move up and compete immediately...I think Marshall did but they had Randy Moss so it's kind of a moot point.
I imagine we'll see 2 or 3 brutal years looking at 2-10 or 3-9 records if we do make the move up, but long term I think it would be fine.

Pretty much any of the top tier CAA programs will have a handful of guys on both sides of the ball that could start and/or get significant playing time on the non-BCS FBS schools, and as you may have noticed we've even had players good enough for the NFL. Our problem, like yours will be is depth to compete all season long.
I would say this, I don't think that if JMU joined CUSA in 2 years that ODU and JMU's only conference win will be against each other, and I don't think that either school will finish last in the league (maybe for the first year), and I would fully expect with Virginia quality athletes that JMU and ODU can recruit both schools would be firmly entrenched in the upper tier of CUSA within a decade.

RE: Serious Question from ODU
This is effing ridiculous. A thread on JMU's board asking for us to comment on ODU's game against ECU. Who the eff cares? This is exactly why we need to dump all ODU related threads in the OT subforum. This one is not even labled OT??????

For a school that thinks we're inferior to them, they sure seem to care about our opinions of them. Quite ironic.

Just looking for some football conversation, unbiased or not.
In any case, this is the first ODU thread that I know of that was started by an ODU poster, and I'm guilty as charged.
Like I said, other than the purple color, it's hard to distinguish between the two boards.

Cut him some slack. At least he is not an arrogant jerk like most of the ODU fans who post on our board. And maybe if you all would stop posting threads about ODU they would stay on their own boards and not troll ours.

I'm with Smokey1 on this one too. Give him a break (just get rid of the Scooby Doo gif until we're out of the CAA!)
