RE: Serious Question from ODU
He comes here with this "it's hard to distinguish between the boards" bull**** and you guys are falling for it head over heels.

I'll give this one ole dirty troll a wee bit of credit though, this is one of the better efforts. Not quite as obvious as some of the other "just looking for conversation" asshats.

Are you guys buying the idea that this will be the best defense we've faced? Honestly, I'm more concerned about our defense in that game than theirs. Just wanted your opinions.

no.

i think you guys will score plenty of points on them. 28+ without a doubt

i'm just not sure you'll stop them.

I fully expect ODU to give a good showing and the final to be something like 48-31 ECU.

If and when JMU makes the FBS, how do you think you will compete? Let's say your transition comes in the next 1-2 years so you have your current team/system more or less in place with one year of transitional recruiting. Does JMU have the ability to compete with a team like ECU?

Do you think that you'll have to get through 3-5 years of FBS recruiting to compete for games and the conference or do you have a fair shout in the first few?

Easy question...JMU goes undefeated in its first year, makes the BCS playoff, and wins the national title. Reign of dominance last roughly a decade before they have to start a "next tier" conference for us so the other teams can have parody and restore order again....

RE: Serious Question from ODU
I would not be surprised to see ODU beat ECU. ODUs offense is explosive and if ECUs O turns the ball over at all ODU can take advantage. I think the Final score will be in the 40s-30s range with either team having a good shot to win. At the end of the day we should not attack ODU posters who come here and ask positive discussion questions. Hell I tried to start a discussion thread the other day and hardly anyone ever answers me. It's why I hardly ever post. Good luck ODU against ECU.

Good luck with ECU, the JMU tech game taught us that anything can happen in this game.

Do you not think the CAA is a joke now? Because I do and I want us out of it. I don't get the whole "stop talking about ODU and put OT on anything about ODU" thing either. They're a rival, one of our biggest and oldest rivals, of course we care about them. I care about ODU because I hate them just like they care about us cause they hate us. Same with Mason, VCU, W&M, Richmond, etc. That's how rivalries go.

Anyway, I don't really know much about ECU but if I had to say I'd think like a lot of people on here are saying. They'll definitely be better depth wise, but I think ODU will score on them. ODU just won't stop them.

This always amuses me. Was JMU football picked 5th or 6th in preseaon voting by the coaches? I forget. If it comes true, then the only joke will be on us.

The CAA as a football league has held up a lot better than the all sports league IMO.

Thanks for those who've expressed confidence, I think it'll take a lot for us to beat them. Namely a great performance on offense and special teams and a couple of turnovers to boot.

Well ok, I guess a lot of people are focused on all football all the time. I'm a way bigger men's basketball fan than football so I guess I'm the minority, but to me, yeah, the CAA is a joke and I badly want JMU out of it. I don't think I am the minority in wanting JMU to leave the CAA though, so that's why it seemed weird for someone to get all defensive of the CAA.

I don't know, I am more Baseball, Basketball, Soccer....then football. So my view of the CAA is mixed. I think for soccer and baseball, it's not a bad little conference at all. Decent teams with good histories and decent competition. For basketball, yeah, you know you're only getting one team to the dance most years, especially now since ODU, GMU, and VCU are gone...Which means you have to win the CAA tournament every year just to get to the dance...and also just no real rivals left. For football, the point here was well taken that while we are ready to move up in terms of interest and enthusiasm, we know those first few years at FBS might be rough...considering we are not picked to "light up" even the CAA this year....although pre-season polls are always bull...errr....snot 03-wink

RE: Serious Question from ODU
And another thing that I think it important. I don't like conferences that invite teams for one sport...like football. It's what brought down the big east. No team unity, the rivalries aren't as intense because not all the sports can represent the rivalry. This is what the CAA has become, football is almost unrecognizable compared to other sports in the CAA in terms of the teams that are in it. I would like a conference, FBS preferably, that has all sports represented. Just my opinion....

I agree. ODU's D is "turble," to quote Charles Barkley. Heineken is awesome, but he will have to really light it up to keep up with EZU's offense.

I didn't defend the CAA. I simply didn't understand why a guy who is making fun of our conference, and occasionally makes fun of us was on our board asking us our opinion about his team playing another team. If the question is is so serious then why not ask the folks on his board, there are plenty of people on there. Also if he thinks our conference and team is below his then why does he value our opinion. In regards to the CAA being a joke I don't believe that it is. We have lost a lot of teams that we love to compete against, but on the football side it is just as strong as it has ever been, and we could very easily be a middle of the pack team this year. We will probably be middle of the pack in basketball this year as well.

Not to argue with you, MV, but I'm guessing the reason he asked our opinion rather than just those on his boards is because we've seen our FCS team play a number of FBS opponents over the years and therefore would have a better, more unbiased opinion than the ODU fans.

I understand your point about the scooby doo gif, but I actually think it's pretty funny. I am ready to get the hell out of the CAA, so maybe that's why, but it's just humor.

Also, not directed at you, MV, but last time I checked, we still live in a free country (somewhat) and this board is a free service, so I'm not sure why everyone keeps getting their panties all up in a wad over ODU posters coming to our boards or people starting OT threads in the non-OT section (god forbid). If you don't like it, don't read it. You have a choice and are welcome to exercise it. If you want a board where you have more control over access and content, then by all means, go create your own, as you have the right to do that if you'd like.

Funny to watch this thread veer off in several directions. I am guessing the original question was asked since JMU has played FBS schools before and we haven't. Wondering what can be expected in terms of depth, athleticism, experience and playing in front of a 45K to 50K crowd for the first time.

I didn't get upset with him, I just said his fellow fans would have a better idea than ours about their team vs a team we don't play, or at least I hope they would. Also I haven't really gotten involved in the whole OT thing, I don't mind them posting here when they behave, in fact I like being on a board with a lot of other schools. The gif doesn't offend me it's like the boy that cried wolf. They come over and poke and pry, and then say ok I'm gonna be serious, Starting , Now. It's lame
