7/27 - Pics from DeKalbia
Was bored with a few hours to kill Saturday, headed up to check out the IPC with my own eyes, here is my barrage of pics. I tried to grab pics that would show how the addition of the IPC changes the feel of the campus...also grabbed couple pics of the parking lot under construction and Gilbert Hall renovation...

Check all the pics out here if your interested, I posted a good amount but not all of them...http://www.tumblr.com/blog/michaelscarn84

The new scoreboard looks like something that needs to be replaced.

I don't understand the infatuation with the scoreboard. It's not like anyone is going to decide to not go to the game because of it. Yes, a bigger screen could "enhance" the experience, but it isn't a deal breaker.

I'm sure the scoreboard will be very visible from the far north upper corners of Huskie Stadium. What more is needed?

Im just glad the "dead pixels" are gone near the center of the screen. Is it just me or does the Chessick not really look aesthetically pleasing. I don't know if its just the color or what, but it looks like someone put a Farm and Fleet next to the stadium. All that matters is the inside though, and Im sure its great!

1.) The scoreboard is fine, actually look on google at scoreboards around the country. I think this one is just fine...

2.) Being near the field, the addition of the IPF really has added the feel of the stadium having a "horseshoe" effect, despite there are no fans on it, the building provides essentially a wall and hopefully will reverberate some of the sound back at the field....

It looks bland when not "turned on", because it is a much cleaner look with the screen taking up a larger area.

Wait til it gets plugged in. I'm confident it will be a noticable upgrade come 6pm on 9/21 vs EMU...err I mean EIU...jk

I haven't been there yet to see it, but was hoping that it would create more of a enclosed stadium. Good to hear.

I agree with your comments about the appearance of the Chessick center. While it is a huge net plus I continue to feel that it looks a bit garish. If NIU could not afford brick, it could have been painted to match the color of the brick used for the Yordon Center. That said it is a huge asset for NIU athletics.

Hope they can sell that advertising "square" on the lower right portion of the scoreboard.

That is up to IMG not athletics.

No doubt all 3 will be filled for the home opener in 7+ weeks.

I saw a Kish sign for one of the upper slots.

Thanks for the pics! I love seeing the stadium a little more closed in like you say. That should impact the atmosphere in a positive way, making it look more like a college stadium than a gigantic high school field.

Hopefully Hyvee is one of them. Getting them heavily involved with athletics is a great thing.

The Grotto wanted to advertise on the board, but that was tied to their giving away freebie toys to all adult fans entering Huskie Stadium. When Athletics saw the "toys", they quickly nixed that idea. Athletics just has no sense of what it takes to really excite the crowd.

I'm sure the scoreboard will look fine on game day with a full stadium roaring. It's just that the photos with it turned off remind me more of a 1930's era black girder Chicago style drawbridge.

For being the premiere team in the country, this isn't exactly leaps and bounds above what NIU just installed...

Video Board Dimensions
Alabama: 34.6 x 20.2
NIU: 39.5 x 15.5

What, you want architecture...

I've always thought for the amount of money they have put in to the Chessick, Yordon, and Scoreboard. They could have done a better job integrating it into the stadium, so it doesn't look so piece meal. Think about this, close to $30 million spent and this is what they got (and don't get me wrong they are terrific, practical, and much needed buildings). They obviously went for substance over style, like most of the campus (sigh)

I agree with that, this does not look very good to the eye at all. The scoreboard looks great but the north side of the stadium does not look good.
