I'm glad you enjoyed passing through the high country. When you make it back, allow plenty of time to check out the other recommendations :)

Eastern style is stronger on the vinegar whereas Lexington style has some tomato added and is sweeter but is still very thin. When I think of "western" style, I think of TX...not Western NC. Compared to TX style sauce, both NC styles are "vinegar" based.

In Boone, I would go for Woodlands. For the record, you can also get Woodlands at the App games in the stadium.

Also note that western NC style is typically pork shoulder while eastern NC style is whole hog.

I head off for my trip to North Carolina tomorrow. I am going to have to try to drive the 11 hours between Jonesboro and Greensboro in one day. Yikes.

I feel for you. Last Saturday, I drove from Findley Lake, NY back to Atlanta. Stop included, it took 13 hours. My best advice is caffeine consumption....

Yeah, unfortunately I have a meeting I cant get out of tonight, and need to be in Greensboro tomorrow night. My plan is to leave super early, and make three stops of 30 minutes each on the trip every 3 hours..

And lots of Caffeine.

If you are coming into Greensboro via I-40 and want to try some good Lexington NC Style BBQ try Clark's on Hwy 66 in Kernersville or Stamey's on High Point Road across from the Greensboro Coliseum. Or you could just make the 20 minute drive down Hwy 52 to Lexington from Winston Salem and chose from a dozen different joints!

I just drove back and forth between Richmond, VA and Dallas, TX without stopping in hotels either way. Counting some longish stops it was about 25 or so hours each - so that trip doesn't sound so bad.

25 hours is insane. I just stopped for a break near Knoxville. 6 hours plus of 1 stop driving, it's more difficult then it sounded to me a few days ago.

That just sounds painful. Our trip up included going from Atlanta to Boone, through the edge of VA and a LONG ride through WV and PA, before finally getting to Findley Lake, NY. With a few stops, a traffic jam, and a little detour, it took 17.5 hours. I was a happy man when I put my head on my pillow that night.

I enjoyed it actually, though it was exhausting. I'm trying to talk the wife into driving out to visit my brother in Los Angeles.

I don't mind driving, especially if it's to an area I have never been to or rarely, just hate deadlines. If I can
take my time it's not so bad normally.
