Word on the street(UConn edition)
First off remember i made that "Scott" thread a couple days ago? Yeah, he didn't disappoint. All the bad cop being played and it was his turn to switch it up.

Anyway. Word is that UConn while pitching itself to anyone who will listen has a little something something brewing if the split happens either from the NCAA or to a d4 type division. UConn thinks the following:
1) If ND is allowed to be a indy then BYU most likley will be a indy in the new setup also. If thats the case then there is potential for UConn to place itself as a indy.
2) If indys are not allowed then ND has to join the ACC or buy out of its fresh ACC deal and then sign full time with the B1G. It seems very realistic that ND picked its home and would join the ACC full time if this option was the case. UConn feels that if this option happens then they are #16 ahead of Cincy and Temple.

Now, with that being said here is whats going on. UConn has started to set up its case for Indy status behind doors. It has full support of SNY which is extremely important to this because that's a extremely gifted TV relationship for both sides. Together they believe if done correctly that UConn's own TV contract could be worth 25-30mil. Yes thats right. What happens is SNY gets everything home wise and some other things also. That much inventory of 2 brand programs and a football program thats then part of the split/d4 is worth a lot to the NYC metro/upstateCT. Its a huge potential type deal.

UConn has been in deep talks with the following:
-The Big East. They are not quite there yet but the deal could look something like this. UConn other sports(not football, bball or wbball) would join the BE full time and help them schedule wise in many small sports. UConn has great soccer and baseball among other sports so its a good boost for both sides and they mutually feel its a good idea. For this, UConn will sign "league lenght" contracts bball wise for both programs. What that means is that each bball program UConn has will play every team in the BE as ooc games. split them home and away. so if the BE is 10 teams thats 10 games, 12 is 12. you get it. These games will be added into the meat of the BE schedule. So basically UConn fills its what would be conference time of the year schedule with BE games as OOC games and the BE wins because they get tons of quality. When UConn has a home game SNY gets it, when a BE team has a home game Fox gets it. Its a huge TV setup for both sides. There is also already talk that Providence and UConn will play every 3rd game at the Casinos as a neutral site among other things. This contract is good for up to 16 members of the BE size wise supposedly(tells you what the BE is thinking huh?) UConn has a 1 year notice they must give to back out of this and it costs them nothing. So basically they have a very quality agreement on both sides and they all understand one day when UConn gets a p5 invite they will go all sports. If UConn leaves within the 1 year length then they owe 1mil to each team of the BE. my 2 cents? I think it makes a lot of sense for both sides. UConn is clearly getting very creative right away.

-The PAC and the SEC. UConn is offering both this. They want 2 football games a year in oct/nov. 1 home 1 away. they also are offering 4 bball games from both programs as OOC. 2 home 2 away. the PAC/SEC can pick all teams involved. the catch is teams must be rotated. so if uconn visits USC for a game the next game must be at UConn. UConn by making a contract with the league becomes a bit more involved and makes some more friends if you will. But it allows both of these leagues to now have some media/games in NYC basically. UConn is really pumping that. Stanford-UConn girls games. Zona/UCLA vs the UConn boys. Bringing Washington to NYC, Florida, Bama type games. UConn has something to be sold and trust me they are doing so.

-Rutgers, MD and PSU. UConn is offering these 3 schools literally the whole boat. They want 4 or 6 year deals with each of them. every sport they play. not joking. UConn is offering 5k seats to them to sell also. So the schools can travel very well as a group. Were talking soccer and girls volleyball type games.

-UConn is in talks with Bosie, Cincy and BYU to create a 4 team Indy alliance basically where these 4 play each other the last 3 weeks of the year. They have all scheduled each other so now they are trying to shuffle things around. This will also lead to basketball games yes.

-UMass, Ohio and NY. Look for UConn to fill with these 3 schools.

SO a outside look at it.

2015 football schedule could have:
UMass
Rutgers
@MD or PSU
PAC1
@PAC2
SEC1
@SEC2
@BYU
Bosie
@Cincy

bball?
2 PAC
@2Pac
2 SEC
@ 2 SEC
5 BE
@ 5 BE
@BYU
Bosie
Cincy

among other games of course but when you look at it you can see whats going on.
1) Its a way for UConn to not only survive but actually thrive
2) sos/rpi type arguments are not needed as quality is there for sure
3) it gives SNY one hell of a inventory, now you understand the $ side of it
4) it clearly allows UConn to continue to build its programs and make $
5) Notice how the ACC and B1G don't have contracts but UConn is interested in the eastern Big teams. creating the right buzz goes a long way long term imho.

I do not know about the PAC but when it comes to SEC football UCONN is out of the mind if it think the SEC will tell there teams that they have to play UCONN. Now if an SEC school on there on wants to sign a contract with UCONN that is one thing but the SEC signing a contract with UCONN is another thing all together. It will not happen and you can take that to the bank.

I can't even see that happening with Boise and Cincy already in conferences.. you think the conferences are going to say.. "Sure, last few weeks of the year, we'll put our conference on the back burner just for Uconn"...

seems an awful lot like a pipe dream. these things dont come around like the massive conspiracy theories that people come up with, they are split second decisions by a few people made over a small period of time.

this post is pretty similar to the stuff i saw from b12/fsu fans about them joining the b12.

For football I would think the 2 conferences to talk to would be ACC and B1G... use the threat of more NYC exposure. Play 3 game series: 1) home, 2) away, 3) Yankee Stadium

I'm really baffled as to how UConn football is even in this discussion. The premise of this is preposterous. They have no history whatsoever.

No doubt, even if true or not, that SNY would go for something like this based on how their recent sports deals are biting them in the ass. Mets and Jets have been blah of recent, the Big East brand has changed, Rutgers will shift content to B1G Network. And YES is beating them thoroughly in viewership, even in Hartford-New Haven:

YES Most-Watched RSN in the Country for 10th Straight Year

The average TV Household ratings for Yankees on YES was 250% greater than the Mets on SNY in the Binghamton DMA; 483% greater than the Mets on SNY in the Syracuse DMA; 220% greater in the Albany-Schenectady-Troy DMA, 800% greater in the Hartford-New Haven DMA, and 433% greater in the Buffalo DMA.
The YES Network’s combined average Total Day delivery (32,000 TV Households) in the three metered markets (New York, Buffalo and Hartford-New Haven) within its footprint was more than MSG (16,000) and SNY (14,000) combined.

Yeah I bet UCONN is worth more annually than the entire AAC TV deal. 01-wingedeagle If UCONN had that much value they wouldn't be in this league and/or this league would have gotten a lot more money than it did.

If UConn could get a TV deal on their own for $25M-$30M/yr, they would do that right now and wouldn't bat an eyelash - anyone would. That would be more payout TV-wise than any conference could pay them.

I was quickly messaged by a UConn fan and told they also have Tennessee coming up on the schedule. I replied to let them know that supposedly that series will be worked into what the SEC and UConn do in the agreement. The talk of the girls playing each other recently is because of this also. Tennessee and Florida will be 2 of the more prominent games and series from this. The football games will be bloodbaths imho but the bball games will be national sellers.

What i did leave out is this. The SNY deal has a lot more than just what i posted in it. A small part of it is carrying UConn hockey games. Ones that the NESN-HE tv deal does not carry which will be most it seems. Some womens games may also get on SNY. You have to remember SNY lost a lot of inventory. A TON. You can also figure in things like midnight madness, spring football game and SNY is interested in buying a yearly Fairfield vs UConn matchup @ Harbor Yard. Possibly Iona getting involved as well. This is a mega deal and i'm sure there is way more i do not know about.

Bottom line is, UConn basketball is the 7th best program of all time behind the 6 bluebloods with lville right next to them barely in 8th. The girls are the best. When you load up schedules for those 2 programs and give SNY 30+ home games a year to feature them thats a ton of money to be made. Are you risking putting those teams on thin ice with such hard schedules? sure, but its all about the benjamins and staying nationally relevant for UConn until they earn a invite. The girls last year made over a million them selves in a tv deal with SNY. Thats the same as UConn earns as a full share in the American. Don't kid yourselves ECU and other fans trying to rip UConn. Your not in the same world brand value wise. UConns story CR wise is way different then whats publically portrayed. They have huge Worth. The American putts a bunch of community colleges and lame brands on its schedule. When you play crap you earn crap. If UCLA had a schedule of wyoming, unlv and utep think about there tv contract. Football wise your taking whats been a blah schedule for years and bringing in national brands and p5 teams in general. big boost. From what i understand UConns attendance and fanbase has had a huge dip recently as CR events have happened, changed the logo and colors and the new AD has underwhelmed with his duties so far including the football coach staying. This will change things for ever in Connecticut.

Rumor - UConn in discussion about going independant?
This makes a lot of sense for UConn. Posted by FromTheInside on the Realignment Board ->

Wow, this seems like a really sweet deal and I do hope it's true to some extent. This would be best for UConn, D4 split or not. I would be sorry to do anything to hurt the AAC though, but I fully believe UConn is worth over $20m a year in media rights based on our tier 3 deals that we currently have in place.
