The Dude is way more realistic than this guy.

Can I pretend to be an insider and post some hair brained idea about ECU working on going independent? Hell it's just as feasible, in fact maybe more so since ECU used to be independent in the not too distant past and had it's own independent football TV deal with ESPN.

Yeah that's what this hair brained rumor says, that UCONN can get more in an indy deal than the entire AAC is worth. If that were true they'd already be independent.

I'm not saying that figure is bull****, because I dont really know. I do know, however, that figure sounds a whole lot like bull**** though.

So, we're re-posting a thread started on the realignment board by a user named "FromTheInside?"

This guy sounds like a relative of the Dude and MHver.

Also, they might be able to get 2 SEC games a year, but the top tier SEC schools arent going up to UCONN. Youll get a steady dose of Vandy, MSU, Mizzou, and Ole Miss.

Don't think this will go far but it would behoove them to research it.

That why it would make sense that we sign a long term exclusive deal with a large regional sports network. A national outlet doesn't make sense for us, but SNY would be perfect.

Here is what this article is missing.
#1 what access to BCS bowl would UConn have? Right now we know there is access for a G5 champion, would that mean that UConn and BYzu as Indus would not take that spot and have to get a separate invite like Notre Dame. If that's the case the chances of an Indy UConn getting an at large BCS bid is slim and none.

#2 how much football playoff money would UConn get as an Indy? If I'm not mistaken the figure BYU would get is a lot less than if they were a conference member.

I don't really see UConn football benefitting from this move.

I don't disagree with that. Hell I think ECU could get more than 2 million a year with an independent deal. I think the deal is horribly undervalued, but UCONN is not worth more as an independent than ND is.

You would also have no bowl games.

For UConns sake that's a hell of a deal and would definitely be worth going it alone.

A word of caution, the original poster, "From The Inside" has a total of 11 posts and one has Temple going to the ACC.

For both our sake i hope he's spot on, but i'm taking his info with a grain of salt.

I'm thinking MASN would be looking to pay at least 30 million a year for ECU football, and then ECU would work with the NFC East and South on scheduling agreements. Then maybe work things out with ND, Texas, Florida, and USC to have home and homes in November. Sounds pretty plausible.

I can't even see that happening with Boise and Cincy already in conferences.. you think the conferences are going to say.. "Sure, last few weeks of the year, we'll put our conference on the back burner just for Uconn"...
It seems like the speculation is in the frame of some imagined Big Five split in which the conferences that Cincy, UConn and Boise are in miss the boat.

As far as "Plan A, Plan B ..." goes, it sounds like a Plan G.

Most of the AAC school are worth more as independents "assuming they get solid schedules in place".

The big difference is that ND's Indy deal is just for football and UConn's would be for much more.

Last I heard, Fox Sports Ohio was looking to buy out Ohio State from its B1G contract and pay the Buckeyes eleventy bazillion dollars per year, provided they work out scheduling arrangements with the NBA, MLB, and NFL.

It's almost as plausible as the OP.

Isn't this the same guy who had Temple going to the ACC with a 'partial payment' deal? Using he LINC for a bowl?

I have a feeling that FromTheInside has an active fantasy life.
