Really did not see that coming. It'll be interesting to see how he does and what happens to what he's built at Butler.

Apples and oranges. Next year is probably Shaka's best squad yet. For Stevens, on the other hand, this was an excellent time to cash out on what will be a bubble squad.

Who is his likely replacement? This seems like a hell of an inconvenient time to leave....

I think its always a good time to "cash out" if the cash is right.

Its a very very bad time to try to find a coach. Most are preparing for the Summer recruiting onslaught.

Very surprising, really didn't see this one coming. Sucks for the Big East to lose one of it's best coaches, hopefully Butler can find a suitable replacement. Who is available? Howland maybe?

That would be one hell of a contingency plan. I would jump all over it if I were Butler.

Howland is a great choice since he wouldn't be leaving any school. I also like Wichita St coach Greg Marshall.

I'm sorry but whats keeping him in the now 1 bid MVC? Butler has been to two finals, so it's not like he can't have success there. They can pay him more and give him WAY more exposure.

Did no one learn that their coach may not actually be there forever?

Their coach is untouchable - just ask any Shocker fan. 03-snooty

There's no chance that he ever leaves, and especially to Butler, a member of a conference that's seen by them as a slight step up over the Valley and destined to be known as mid-major.

Any chance Matt Graves decides to leave South Alabama? He probably wouldn't have taken the job if he'd known there was going to be an opening this soon at Butler.

Dr. G would be a very good hire for Butler (depending on the field).

RE: Stevens Leaving Butler for Celtics
one thing that is interesting- the timing while seems to be bad could be a lot worse. On the NCAA women's side, the exposure period where coaches can look at recruits starts on Saturday. On the men's side- doesn't start until next Wed. night. So, they have a bit more time than they could have possibly had.

Overall though this does not help the Big East at all. Just about the worst case scenario I would say.

RE: Stevens Leaving Butler for Celtics
Im just laughing at:

a) the fact that many have gone from the "What really has Coach Marshall accomplished?" to contender for EVERY opening.
b) the Valley is actually trending back up again like it did in 2002-2006 when it was multibid each year.
c) a "one bid league" would imply if we do not win the Valley tournament, we wouldn't get in. See Gonzaga many years in WCC.

I have LOTS of respect for the Big East, and even the snobbishness of some of the fans cannot change my opinion of the programs. However, while they claim to be knowledgeable fans, they know little of other schools.

I have respect for WSU 04-cheers A few years back I was advocating for Marshall to coach at DePaul though that would not have been good for you guys but still....
