Autobids are awarded to conference champs to:

Big Sky Conference
CAA
MEAC
MVC
OVC
Patriot League
Pioneer League (Non Scholarship)
Southern Conference
Southland Conference

The 1st 8 are seeded and seeds 1-4 get a bye in the new format. The rest of the teams are at large bids. You used to rarely have even a 7 win school make the playoff in a 16 team formant. The new format is 24 and not only will you see 7 win teams but some years I think you will see 6 win teams.

Sounds like all of these 6 and 7 win teams that go to bowl games... guess we aren't any different.

Would think the Jackrabbits of South Dakota State have the best shot of upsetting NDSU
this year in FCS.

After reading the original interview, rather than the Lehigh writer's spin... It is clear to me that the Big Sky commissioner's plan is to move the whole league to FBS... should the opportunity arise... likely as a result of a potential split that leaves two tiers of FBS football.

I personally don't see that scenario happening... I mean, why split if the big schools have what they want anyway?

But if it does, look for the Big Sky to move as a league from FCS to FBS if they are permitted to. Having said that, the Lehigh author's whole premise is moot... FCS will be the new division 2 and anyone and everyone that can make the move up will do so... meaning that the interview he used to make his case actually proves point that FCS has a very dim future.

Plus this time unlike in 1978 when IA and IAA was being formed you would see Anti trust law suits. If that were to happen who knows what kinda mess the NCAA would be. College athletics is now a big business. Plus a split would only help the top 10-12 schools and would hurt the middle and lower BCS schools.
