Specific GB renovation idea's
-The MAC Championship Sign/Retired Numbers "footballs" on the Larimer are discolored and outdated
-Chuck Ealey and other historic football player posters on the castle locker rooms are 90's and discolored
Last season a lot was done in the weeks prior to the first home game. I haven't seen any painting or mulching done yet, but every season a little bit is done to "renovate." What do you want to see?

UofToledofan, Larimar will be totally renovated and done for the 2014 season. My sense is they begin after this season is over. I have seen the plans and the facility will be bigger, more functional, and have some wow factor to it. A good amount of donations have been made toward the project. My sense is that east side stand renovation would be next.

East side stands! They need to be done before Larimer (even though we all know that won't happen).

RE: Specific GB renovation idea's
In consideration of the Larmar project, I would say don't spend money on anything that doesn't absolutely have to be done. I know--that's a downer, but here's the thing. For the first half of the season we only have 2 home games, one of which is a non-conference. The weather should still be nice for the Navy game on 10/19, but after that we're into November. All of the Nov. games are at night (each one later than the previous); daylight will be shorter, it's going to be chilly and the crowds usually dwindle somewhat in the colder weather. So, I 'm thinking, unless they do some sprucing up that won't go to waste once the Larimar project kicks off, save the money and do the sprucing up next year and make the whole thing a bigger splash. OTOH, if they do decide to do some things this year I'll be more than happy to enjoy it.

When the facilites guy was at our alumni association meeting he stated that east stands renovations are not on the table at this time. I do not think anyone has $20,000,000 sitting around to make that happen

But UT was able to scrounge up $30M for Savage. The east stands are beyond embarrassing.

True... if we have to subject ourselves to 2 home games before late October and November Tuesday/Wednesday night games then I want a retractable domed 50,000 seat area similar to Amsterdam's soccer arena.
For those who think this is impractical I will note the 500 car parking under the field which would nicely replace any loss in Lot 10 parking.

Something that shouldn't cost nearly as much as anything mentioned: quality of concessions somewhat at least approaching what you can get at a Mud Hen's game. Or at the least, hot hot-chocolate and uncongealed pizza.

They are not "castle"s, They are called BLOCKHOUSES. The University of Toledo yearbook (which is no longer printed) was named after them. "The Blockhouse"

RE: Specific GB renovation idea's
OT - Cincinnati's Nippert Stadium will be under construction when Toledo plays there in 2014...this game could potentially be moved to Paul Brown Stadium fwiw.
Quote:An $86 million expansion of Nippert Stadium is essentially paid for after the University of Cincinnati secured buyers for 18 private suites and hundreds of club seats, plus $10 million in private donations.
Those buyers will provide enough money to pay off the bonds UC will issue to pay for construction, so UC trustees formally launched the project Tuesday.
Construction will start in December, immediately after the 2013 season ends, and will be done in time for the 2015 season.
UC is talking to the Bengals about playing at Paul Brown Stadium for the 2014 season.
Tuition dollars won’t be used for the project.
With about 40,000 seats, an expanded Nippert will be a new centerpiece for UC’s main campus, highlighted by a new pavilion on the stadium’s west side.
That includes the boxes and club seats, plus a skywalk into Tangeman University Center.
The project also includes an expanded concourse, restrooms and concessions on the east side.
“This is a statement about the strength of our university and our support from our fans and our alumni,” UC President Santa Ono said.
As UC raises more money, the project could provide millions in new dollars for the athletic department to invest in other sports or facilities, Athletic Director Whit Babcock said.
“We’ve got it to a point where if we started today, we will make more than we owe on the facility,” Babcock said. “Now we need to keep going.”
The club seats committed so far, with access to an indoor club room, will bring in about $2.5 million per year over the 20-year bond payoff, while suites will bring in nearly $2 million a year.
The project also is bound to make UC more attractive to other conferences, such as the the Atlantic Coast Conference, UC’s preferred destination.
UC will sell naming rights to the new pavilion, but the stadium "will always be Nippert Stadium," Babcock has said.
Expanding Nippert, nestled in the heart of UC’s main campus, will help UC athletics maintain a campus atmosphere for football fans that Babcock called “part of our brand.”
It also means UC can keep concession revenues and signs for its athletic sponsors in its own stadium.
“This is a unique way to literally tie it to campus,” Babcock said.

We've had the suites and club seats for decades. Did UC ever get their inflatable practice facility?

I've always thought Nippert was butt ass ugly, jammed into the middle of a campus and they've built right on top of it. They've surrounded the one corner and one endzone with really modern architectural buildings that don't match the historic nature of the stadium. It would be like Frank Gehry designing the rennovation of Larimer. It doesn't matter what kind of patch they try to slap over that stadium, it will still be ugly.
