I can remember when Tulane Football was relevant. Roch Hontas, Marv Christian and others were a tough bunch to beat playing for Larry Smith.

Then Ned Fowler and John Williams single-handedly trashed the entire Tulane program.

Mack Brown and Tommy Bowden brought it back again. Maybe the days of playing to an empty Superdome are over when they get on-campus in Yulman in 2014.

I would give Tech a 6 in football. We have finally started to hire coaches that have a chance to win at the D1A level. We also have a campaign to improve our stadium even thought present leadership has failed so far... Fans are showing up at games - especially the students. When schools is in we pack in 7-8k in seating for 3k.

BB I would give us a 4. It would be a 2 but with coach White's recent raise to 500k and a nice facility bump it up.

We have a long way to go and hopefully our new President will start by firing the clown we have as a AD to start.

Its hard to just fire an AD. When Dr Kopp took over in 2005 everyone wanted him to get rid of Marcum. Dr Kopp has stated he wanted Mike Hamrick from day one but he knew he couldn't get him at that time. Hamrick had just taken over UNLV in 2003 and was only 2 years in. He was right Hamrick has said he wouldn't have just came home at that time. Its better to keep what you know than to get rid of something and not get what you want, only to may have something even worse come along.

This is a good summation.

For basketball I give odu a 5. They cut the salary and hired jeff jones. Kidding me to say wood wants a good basketball program. Wku might be able to confirm if wood is onesided towards football?

Football 10 or higher. New assist head coac. A good dir of football operations. An expansion is coming. And a large budget.

Woody is onesided.

The USM folks have made very nice improvements to The Rock with the end zone suites, North Texas has a brand new home across the interstate from their old place, FAU has a beautiful new stadium, and MTSU continues to upgrade Floyd Stadium with the new Hendrix Stadium Club. LA Tech and Marshall have a long history of football support. ECU does too but they are moving on to the basketball conference.

MTSU=10

When we announce the new indoor football facility, can we have an 11 03-lmfao

Our commitment to basketball will be higher once we get the Murphy Center renovated, and removing the indoor track.

Does it have a styrofoam ceiling? Wooden bleachers? Track? Restrooms out of "Tegucigalpa International Airport"? If not then don't worry. MTSU still holds last place....

Says a fan of a school where until 2008, had a one sided high school football stadium with a capacity of 17,500 and a basketball arena named "Diddle." Go play in the street.

We are sinking 180M on facilities on a 1.5M a year TV deal, who knows if it ever pays off, but it is worth a shot. Hope it pays dividends to all the people investing in facilities so that we can build strong athletic programs.

6 to football.

Which is much better than it has been. Major facilities improvements with a stadium as nice as any in the country of the same size range. We ponied up the money for a real 1-A coaching staff a few years ago. However, the commitment doesn't seem to be high enough to hold people accountable as they should.

I'd give a higher number to our non-rev/minor sports, because there isn't nearly the discrepancy between the major and minor sports that other schools have.

10....we are merely waiting for on the field and court results now because we have all the necessary pistons running in sync...finally.

Seems Vanderbilt U athletic officials on a recent visit liked what they saw:

"UNT AD Rick Villareal said Vanderbilt University officials visited our (Apogee) stadium recently because they heard such great things about it. They loved it so much they toured the rest of our facilities (the Mean Green Athletic Village). The Vandy' people said you can't find these kind of facilities at some Southeastern Conference (SEC) schools. That was pretty impressive." L. Travis post & quote from a Mean Green Caravan Get-Together In Plano, TX.

And TG4, here is a video of that "old" football stadium taken in 2009 before the Mean Green Village (and Apogee Stadium) were built. It was time for a change with the replacement of Fouts Field as a football venue but I think most would agree that it will make one heckuva' great track and field stadium. NOTE: The Press Box side of Fouts Field (nearest Interstate 35-E) will be imploded in a few weeks.

Good to hear so many from the new CUSA are in the midst of all this new venues and facilities arms race. What's good for one is good for all?

Very nice. And FWIW, we lost at Fouts Field in '78.

5 for North Texas. Mediocrity is acceptable as long as we can get over 15K at the games.

We're opening up a new track and field stadium and soccer stadium (25 mil) in July. Upgrading our weight room ($500k). Alamodome is a 10 with upgraded locker rooms. These are all 10's. The bad news now. Baseball, softball, and basketball facilities are substandard. The good news is that we should be getting much needed funds for facility upgrades in the next year or two. Coaching staff is not bad considering our salary structure. So all in all I would say about a 7.5 but about to become a 10 in about 2-3 years.

I suppose that is what losing does to many of our attitudes.

SMU entered CUSA with a 2 1/2 decade losing streak in football post Death Penalty which most all agree should have never been the sentence the NCAA gave the Mustangs football program. (By the way, North Texas and SMU just signed a 12 year home and home football series).

Fortunately, I first became a fan of North Texas as a student when Hayden Fry coached his first game for the Mean Green and before I die, I just happen to think the pendelum of winning will swing our way again because in the NCAA.....doesn't it always do just that?

What excites me the most now about our upcoming winning cycle is that our UNT constituency from which to draw new fans is about 10 X's larger than it was when Fry was in Denton and that will dramatically translate at the Apogee Stadium turnstiles. The North Texas Metroplex has a "winners town" mentality (so to speak) which the Dallas Cowboys helped to create so therefore..........JUST WIN, BABY!

Anyone want to see a real, bonafide losing college football program that lasted for almost a 100 years? Then check out the stats in the first part of this YouTube video. NOTE: Bill Snyder left Austin College in Sherman, Texas, to become one of Hayden Fry's assistant coaches at North Texas. Fry and staff all left for Iowa in 1978 and the Fry Coaching Tree began to bloom thereafter with our present HFC, ie, Dan McCarney being from that very tree.

I applaud UTSA's burgeoning athletic program. Maybe yall can teach SMU, UH (when in losing years) and North Texas a few things about how to promote to get more fans in the stands now? I think consistent winning will automatically do that for UNT as it is, but we could get anywhere from 36K to 38K into Apogee with S.R.O. (if allowed by the city fire marshall, that is).

The SBC's past Commish' Wright Waters single-handedly created the New Orleans Bowl for the SBC football champion (of which UNT hosted its first 4 years...just had to throw that in, of course); but I'd love to see CUSA Commish' Britt Banowsky get with UTSA officials, the AlamoDome staff and city of San Antone' to create a 2'nd bowl game exclusively hosted by a CUSA team with an at large school as its opponent. I don't think we need to always play another go5 school for all our CUSA sponsored bowl games in other words.

I know Banowsky is working on a CUSA bowl in south Florida, but San Antone' in this Texan's biased opinion is a great destination city with much for tourist to do for 2 or 3 days when they'd get there.

Go Mean Green!

Go CUSA!
