I don't agree with dropping season tickets or even donations as the beneficiaries of our money are still student-athletes that very much deserve the opportunity JMU can afford them on and off the field.
I know this might sound like a funny question, but why do the athletes deserve it more than other students? Why do they deserve it more than the national cancer society? Why do they deserve it more than the local food bank? Couldn't they just get a student loan like a lot of us had to do?
I'm not trying to be a smart-oss, but the only reason we think they deserve it is in hopes they will bring wins to JMU and make the program and teams more of a pleasure to watch and brag about.
If you're giving back to your school, wouldn't it be a better match to give back to the academic side that likely has benefited you?
I've not given a dime to the school of business. so I'm talking about myself too.
I donate for two main reasons, 1) to try to help JMU athletics improve, and 2) to feel like/ be part of JMU nation.
I'll be honest, if JMU went to the ACC I'm not going to all the sudden donate twice the amount. But if JMU is less exciting, and I don't feel like it is on the improve (like GMU, VCU, ODU, GSU, UMAss, etc) my interest will continue to lesson which will effect my giving in the very near future. I kept my donation to the same level it was last year, but it gets to be more and more of a decision each year. It used to be a no-brainer.
I don't blame anyone for what or why they donate. That's a personal decision that each person makes. It's a donation.
Not sure what this post means, but.....
