RE: Favorite Games Of All Time
For me, I missed the cajuns defeat aTm in 1996, which until last season was the bar for cajun fans. I started watching UL in 2002 and this is my list.

5)UL 34, UAB 0 (2002) - In hindsight it wasn't that important of a game. We pounded the crap out of UAB 34-0, but more importantly, it was that game that that made me into a cajun fan. I was a freshman at UL, and this was the first game I attended as a student and since them, I have made every game physically possible.

4)UL 17, Kansas State 15 (2009) - UL has 2 wins against Big 12 teams, I didn't get to see us take down aTm in 96, so this was big for me. We controlled the game and had a 14-2 lead going into the fourth quarter, but our team wore down and K-State started to take the fight to us. K-state scored just as the 4th quarter started and then took a lead with 8 minutes to go with a td and failed 2 point conversion with 8 minutes to go. We got the ball back with just under 4 minutes left, drove down and Tyler Albrect nailed a game winning 48 yard field goal. (and up until that point in the season, had not even attempted a field goal, let alone almost a 50 yarder)

3)UL 35, ULM 30 (2011) - 2011 was the turning point for UL football, and nothing signified what the team was about more than this game. It was a back and forth game through the first 3 quarters. ULM jumped out front in the first quarter 14-0, UL stormed back in the 2nd taking a 24-14 lead, but ULM took control in the second half. It all looked lost when Blaine Gautier had to come out and Chris Masson's first series ends in an interception. Down 35-24 with only 3:05 to go, the game seemed lost, but as I was strolling out of the stadium, I decided to stick around on the hill and catch a play or 2 to see how it went. Blaine Gautier came back into the game and drove down in less than a minute and scored a TD (missed the 2 pt conversion). Now with 2 minutes to go in the game, we were still down 35-30, but we managed to get the onsides kick with 2 minutes to go, drive down and score another TD (another failed 2 pt conversion) and we lead by 1 with 1 minute to go. We held and won on our way to our first bowl game in over 40 years.

2)UL 31, Houston 28 (2006) - at houston in 2006, UL was setting up for a run as a premiere team in the SBC after we reeled of 5 straight wins to end 2005. Houston was off to their best start in years and Kevin Kolb had this team humming on all cylinders and was considered the cream of the crop for non-BCS teams. Things didnt go the cajuns way to start either, we trailed 21-0 in the first half and 28-13 late in the 3rd, but UL started putting together some long sustained drives and we started making things happen. Down by 4 with 8 minutes to go, we got the ball back and proceded to put together an 18 play, 85 yard drive that ate almost 7 minutes of time off the clock capped by a TD pass to Kevin Belton in the endzone. We managed to hold Houston on their last possession and left houston with a big upset victory. UH went on to run away with the CUSA championship and UL went on to slump to a 6-6 season. I'll never forget how I felt going on the road to this game. As I left, I saw a lineman for UH outside the stadium take his helmet and throw it as hard as he could at the ground and padding flew out. Afterwards, in the cheesiest thing to do ever, me and my friend went and had some beers at a Bennigans in Houston and listened to we are the champions on the internet jukebox. Fun times.

1) UL 32, SDSU 30 (2011 New Orleans Bowl) - UL has had down times, after we upset aTm in 96, it was all down hill. Stokely left town after failing to gain any momentum from that win and had some very down seasons. Insert the biggest mistake in UL athletic history in hiring failed Jerry Baldwin who managed to take us from having no forward progress to attempting to dig a grave for our athletic program, then came 9 years of Bustle built us back up to mediocre, but 2011 was different with a much better leader in Mark Hudspeth. That season culminated with our first bowl game in 40 years. We just were happy to be there, and a win would just be icing on the cake. We were dominating the game, but SDSU made a late rally scoring 2 TDs to lead by 1 with only 35 seconds to go and us having no time outs. Blaine Gautier went from a huge part of the cajun program to something that legends are made of in that 35 seconds driving us into field goal range, but still had to make a 50 yard field goal to win the game and this is what happened.

As the ball sailed through the uprights, everyone had different reactions but all were elation. I can not deny, after all the troubles our program had been through, I teared up. We could go on to win a national championship, and I don't think I will ever feel how fulfilled I was after this game. Most amazing game experience ever. I have a game worn jersey I wore to the game that was from our 2010 team, as I was leaving a little boy, probably about 5 years old stopped me against his parents wishes and asked if I were a UL football player, I told him I wasn't because I wasn't big or strong enough to really be one to which he responded "I hope that one day I can be big and strong enough to be a UL football player". Doesn't get better than that. Best night as a cajun fan ever.

Is there any youtube footage of this controversial TD?

What controversy? Have not had time to find it yet, but here is one where he threw @ 68 or 69 yarder @ the 3 minute mark.

I was just asking. I have never seen footage and wanted to know what all the ruckus was about. "The catch that wasn't a catch."

5. App at Georgia Southern 2012 - A slug fest that ended with the Apps pulling the upset against the #1 ranked and bitter rival: The Stink. Sean Price took over the game.

4. App at Chattanooga 2010 - The Apps were down 28-7 at the half. QB Deandre Pressly orchestrated a phenomenal comeback, including a TD when he passed to ball to receiver Matt Cline, Cline fumbled when he was hit, Pressly picked up the fumble and ran it in for the TD. It was recorded as a complete pass and a rushing TD in the same play for #2. App won 42-41.

3. App @ Richmond 2009 - Another heart-pounder. I've never seen such a compelling, back and forth struggle in a 4th quarter. We thought we has the W when we forced UR to punt in the waning minute of the game, but Travaris Cadet (Current New Orleans Saint) was stripped of the ball and they ran it back for a touchdown. Then Armanti Edwards led the team down the field in under a minute and made the game winning pass to Mat Cline in the final seconds.

Another memorable moment of the game was a Sports Center top ten play from Blake Elder. The UR field was a mud pie. Elder slipped and fell, was laying flat on his back, but still managed to snag the pass for a first down.

2. Wofford @ App Halloween 2008 - This one was already discussed. The most one-sided football game I've ever seen, and Wofford was good that year.

1. App @ Michigan 2007 - Need I say more? #5 ranked, NFL star studded roster. The biggest crowd to ever watch a college football game at the time. Winningest football program in NCAA history.

App goes in there and flat out out-plays them. You've seen the highlights, so I'll leave you with Lou's thoughts.

A favorite of mine that I didn't see mentioned:

Eagles win 54-7 against hated rival Appy State. The most lopsided victory in the series since GSU re-started their football program.

Found it!

The 3:16 mark is the scoring drive that took the lead against Furman. That big pass for a 4th down conversion and score is the loudest I have ever heard Paulson.

Isn't it interesting that one of GaSouthern's top games (11/05/2005) - and a come from behind win - is just 2 games before one or TXSTs favorite games; a bigger come from behind win over GaSouthern?

More interesting that it resulted in our idiot AD firing the coach and sending us on a downward spiral.

We're buidling a resume. After we beat Houston this year they fired their OC. Who's next? 05-mafia

Well, Houston went 5-7 that year with a pitiful offense. We ended up 8-4 (which for us at that time was BLASPHEMOUS.)

But anyway...

Yours was the last game of the season while UHs was their first game.

(and I realize that we were not the whole reason the GaSouth coach got fired but it's fun to say so anyway)

I'm not sure if being so horrible that losing to you is grounds for a coach's dismissal is something to brag about.....

We were not a horrible team in 2005. It was the best team we ever fielded in DI. We were 9-2 in the regular season (losses to A&M, whom we gave a scare and NSU - by a FG). We were ranked #4 all year and got the 4 seed. That said, were not given a thought (and I felt, any respect) going into that first round game and we had the comeback of a lifetime. So to imply I (or any TXST fan) thought we were horrible is pure bunk.

We played UH in 2010 (as an FCS) and lost big time. So again, no respect going into the 2012 game. Not that UH had a great gameplan. Their OC was new to the position and they took us lightly as we were first yr FBS. We beat them in every aspect of the game.
I won't imply we were horrible. We were transitioning and no one expected us to win that game. It implies lack of FBS caliber players and depth. Most FBS teams consider FCS teams as horrible or not worthy. We were 1 yr removed from that FCS moniker. Of course people would think that. We didn't.

In the end, it's all just fun on my part that I put that there anyway. Can you just go with it and not take everything on an internet message board so seriously?

You read it wrong, he said that WE were so horrible that YOU should not brag about beating us that year because clearly we were having coaching problems.

It was a great win Texas St, usually any win in the Playoffs is a great win.

I would have to agree and throw the Tech game from last year on there. The crowd and tailgating was the best and I felt like a true FBS school. Then the game started and it sucked haha.
