I am curious as to why adding JMU to CUSA would be so strategic for ODU?
An in state rivalry would be nice, but is one game a year the 'end-all' for either program? We can still have that in-state rivalry with JMU in the MAC or SBC.
Basketball; and non revenue sports? We can play JMU at the same DIV 1 level anytime.
Let's face it, neither of us is Auburn or Alabama.
For CUSA; JMU's very small media market and lack of major local and regional corporate sponsors would make JMU another mouth to feed as an FCS move up in an already large conference - at least in the short term.
This would be problematic indeed if the group of five goes to the 12m revenue cap.
For ODU specifically, there is the question of adding another competitor for statewide recruits if JMU moves up to any conference.
However, and this is the most important issue; if JMU moves up to CUSA, ODU could lose substantial regional television coverage. Every time JMU and ODU football games overlap, a decision would have to be made in markets like Richmond, Roanoke, and NoVa as to which team to carry, when otherwise ODU coverage would be guaranteed.
This was the primary stated reason that UVA fought so hard to keep Virginia Tech out of the ACC.
BTW, you two ODU fans need to back away from the personal attacks.
Oh, and back on topic;
The AAC did not consider ODU or Charlotte. They are certainly not going to add JMU.
